Gas Assisted Molding
is a low-pressure process that works in conjunction with injection molding, whereby a nitrogen gas is injected into the plastic part in certain areas to hollow out the part. This saves on material usage, improves cycle time and also creates a more cosmetically appealing part by eliminating sink marks, flow marks, surface splay and warp. The gas assisted process also makes it possible to have flexibility to incorporate thick and thin sections in the same part.  This can prove helpful in allowing the designer to create high-strength cored-out sections, rib patterns or box structures, all of which can improve deflection and impact strength.
