I am so bad at sharping chains, I usually just buy new chains. Never again! Just follow the little symbols, arrows, and the direction of the cut, and voilà... Surgically sharp chains. You do need to pull out the files periodically to clean the swarf, and you do need to pay attention to the direction the round files go back in. No muss, no fuss, the three files together maintain the correct angle, and correct depth for the rakers.
