I bought these speed controllers because the little coffee roaster I was doing some upgrades to came with power supplies that had adjustable potentiometers to lower the voltage and, in turn, decrease the speed of the drum and the fan. These PWM controllers look identical to the much more expensive ones I have used, and work perfectly in the application I chose them for.The problem with using potentiometers to do that is that you do not get precise speed control, and lower voltage can cause issues with heat as well. Since a PWM controller set to 80% delivers the full and appropriate voltage in pulses accounting for 80% of the time, a potentiometer at 80% would only be providing 80% of the voltage.If you need precise control of DC motor speed regardless of the load, these controllers will do that for you very well.

I used one as an LED controller... worked great. I am able to dial the full range of brightness. I used another for small water pump DC motor controller... again worked great. Both powered from USB charger. Good stuff!
