This is a very handy and convenient way of connecting to a male DB9 port for communications with RS232 or any other protocol. You can connect as many or as few wires as you need, and you can arrange them in any pinout pattern required. This makes for an all-purpose DB9 connector. If you don't have a lot of simultaneous requirements for DB9 connectors, you can tear this apart and reconfigure it easily for whatever application comes up.Connection is easy and reliable and the connector modules pops out of the housing so it is convenient to work with. All of the pins on the DB9 connector, plus ground, are represented in the 10-pin terminal block. The housing is strong wiht good strain relief and all the necessary hardware. A small screwdriver is conveniently included.

I have an older piece of equipment that requires a strange re-configuring of the RS232 cable to work. I think it was a way for customer lock-in so that you needed to by a specific cable. I was using some less elegant (and ugly) methods to get this to work, but this pair of DB9s (this unit and the matching Male adapter https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DKFH94YV ) did the trick. The connections were easy to screw tight (with the provided screwdriver), and with the variety of different, rubber wire holders, I was able to securely fit the wire I was using. It comes with some screws and an extra bracket to secure the wire to the casing, but you have to look closely in the product page to see it. The case clips shut securely. I'm not going to be opening it and closing it continuously, but in limited use, it does indeed feel securely closed.

The connector is simple to wire up, thanks to the solderless screw terminals. Each pin is clearly labeled on both sides of the board, and the soldering work is clean and strong. I like that the kit can accommodate different cable thicknesses by swapping out the strain-relief boot. The plastic clamshell housing is easy to work with but somewhat bulky. The thumbscrews are threaded into the DB9, instead of the more typical captive/floating bolt design, but it shouldn't be much of an issue unless you're frequently disconnecting and reconnecting the plug. All in all, solid quality and functionality. 4.5 stars.

NOTE: I also own the male version of this adapter, so my review will almost be the same as the other version due to the items being generally identical to each other, except for the pin type.As a vintage computer hobbyist, I run across many systems that use a DB9, male or female, providing external connectivity to other devices. With these vintage computers getting older and prone to failure, sometimes I need to be able to tap the signals coming out of a system so I can read those signals with test equipment. I may also find myself creating custom connections to other devices where I need to wire the nine pins in special ways. This adapter can be used in any of those situations.Sometimes I have to connect devices via DB9 serial ports. When I don't have a suitable cable, I can use this adapter to wire up one of my own. There are other use cases for it, too. I have already used this one to connect a set of arcade game joystick controls to a Commodore 64. I just map the L/R/U/D and fire button wires from the controls to the appropriate pins of the adapter. When I need to work with another DB9 port on a vintage computer system, I just rewire the adapter as needed. Very useful, and very versatile. The other thing I like about this connector is that the screws used to anchor the wires have enough surface area to easily work with multimeter and oscilloscope test probes, in case I need to electrically analyze the signals going through it. It even comes with a screwdriver to connect those wires. If I want to wire a more semi-permanent connection with this, it comes with a full clamshell case, along with multiple strain relief inserts to snugly accommodate most multi-wire cable diameters.
