I really like microgreens, but I hated growing them in a jar, rinsing, draining, watering, daily, pain in the behind! These nice little pads are so easy, soak them, put seeds on them and keep them wet, that’s all you have to do. I experimented with one pad in one container and two pads in the other. The pictures show when I first started the seeds, 3 days later when they started sprouting, and about 5 days after after they were fully sprouted. The container with 2 pads grew thicker, taller, and faster. The 2 pads retained water better without me having to water them every other day like the other container with only 1 pad. This is so much easier than the the traditional growing in a jar, and you get a lot more seeds sprouted so there is little waste from rinsing and draining and the seeds that never sprout in a jar. From what I can tell without having finished eating the sprouts, it’s about 97% seeds sprouted as opposed to the 82% in a jar. Get these, you will eat more healthy sprouts this way, I know that I am.

I grow microgreens regularly. Usually I use coconut coir, but wanted something easier and less messy. These mats are easy to use. You can cut them to fit what ever container you want to use, though it was a little frustrating that they weren't sized to fit any of the usual microgreen trays. They hold water well too.But I got far fewer microgreens than I do by traditional methods. I grew my favorite microgreen mix on this media and on my usual coconut coir. I did everything the same: the amount of seed I used, the water they were giving, the light, everything. These felt mats germinated at a lower rate, the greens did not grow as well or as quickly, the roots didn't make it through the mat very well, and the seed hulls weren't released. I've included pictures. So these mats are easy to use and are less messy that traditional methods, but the microgreen yield is much less. They work, but I'll probably stick with coconut coir, since I hate wasting seed. Also, it's not clear if these are made of natural fiber or synthetic felt, so I don't know if they can be composted.

I tried growing radish sprouts, which are foolproof and that worked okay. I thought that the pad stayed too wet and made the seed hulls slimy. I was growing it in a seed tray with a screen to help with drainage. The roots never penetrated the mat.Now I'm trying watercress, and it's also not going well. The roots are not anchoring, so they're growing willy nilly and won't be easy to harvest. Some look like they're just rotting. So the listing is correct, it's very absorbent. But the listing also shows pictures that show the roots embedding in the fiber pad, and that just doesn't happen and I worry that those photos aren't of the actual product in use.I don't know what this product is, is it cotton? Plastic fibers? I purchased it because I thought it would be more cost effective than the coir mats, but I think I really made a mistake. I regret this order.

I am not really sure what the difference is between these grow mats and just pieces of felt you get at a craft store, because it is not at all like any other type of grow mat that I have ever tried. I admit I was a little dubious when I unpacked them and saw that they were just felt, but I like trying new things, if sprouts can grow on a spread out piece of wet paper towel, why not felt?Well, they do sprout, and quickly, but it keeps the seeds WAY too wet and what I got was mold, a lot of mold, and very quickly. So either the felt came contaminated or it is just too absorbant, I dunno, all I know is in the end it doesn't really work with my growing trays. Maybe it works better with other style trays, but not mine.

So far a very poor crop coming in. I did one sheet with new seed and one sheet with older seed. Neither one is thriving. I have been growing microgreens for 20 years on soil. I've never had a problem, even with seed that is several years old as properly stored. I can't recommend this product.
