Sharpener works well for my purposes. Used mostly to sharpen the chains for my gas powered tree trimmer. Can be mounted to a table, but I attached a piece of angle iron to clamp it into a vise. Plastic is the major material used in its construction.

Bonne achat. Je l’utilise pour affûter des bandsaws. Le moteur n’est pas tellement fort mais ça fait le travail.

This works well there is no play in the arm and the chain is held in place and is easy to move to the next linkI think the plastic will be fine as you are not putting preassure on any part. you are removing minimal material so it is very easy on the sharpener.

Easy set-up. Works well for an inexpensive machine but not robust and expect it won't last long before one of the plastic pieces fails. Good news is it has paid for itself.Main issue is the chain locking device does not always line up and secure the tooth inplace for sharpening. Depending on what side of the chain the tooth is on you may need to put the lock in place and use your left hand to keep tension on the chain to sharpen.

I wish I had bought this years ago. If you think you will sharpen 20 more chains in your lifetime than buy this. It's amazing. I will never hand sharpen with a file again. It's harder work and doesn't even compete when it comes to the quality of the sharpening job. As everyone else mentions it is plastic. It is fine, it works, I'm not afraid of it breaking tomorrow but it doesn't give me confidence that it will last for many years. I sharpen maybe 20 chains a year and am 39 years old. I'm somewhat wishing I had purchased a higher quality one because now that I know how much I love it I am going to want it to last a long time. If you are older or don't sharpen as much I think you'll be very happy with this. One other note is that there was a slightly cheaper one that I didn't buy because reviews mentioned that the chain stop guide was a bit loose. This one has exactly the same problem so I should have just saved the $10. It's not a big deal but a minor flaw. Also as others have mentioned, it doesn't take long. 5 minutes per chain to sharpen. If you only have one chain you're looking at 10 minutes by the time you remove the chain, sharpen it, and reinstall. The first time will be much longer but it quickly speeds up as you get used to the process. It will also take a bit longer if you need to file your rakers (which this tool has nothing to do with) Hope you love your sharp chains as much as I do!

Sharpened several chains, some of them well used. Does a great job in a short time. No more taking chains to a shop or throwing them away. Very happy with the purchase and price. Directions could have been a bit clearer.

I am pretty much an idiot that never learned to sharpen chains with a file and brought them to a local place to get them sharpened when needed. The problem is that in a small town you have few options and the sharpener only did this every other Saturday or something and charged to sharpen each one. I don’t use my saw all that often and fail to plan ahead. About every time. I ended up just ordering more chains because it was quicker. This inexpensive sharpener was easy for a beginner like me to learn and use. I had about 8 chains to sharpen immediately and did a number for friends too. I learned to sharpen as well as the local shop almost immediately (after the first one that was only OK until I figured out the simple depth adjustment). Now I don’t fret over having a dull chain because I can do a nice job of sharpening quickly. You will need to attach it to a work bench. It doesn’t come with bolts or screws but you will figure it out. The machine is mostly plastic so don’t know how sturdy it is or how long it will last but it works really slick and I am already money (and convenience) ahead. I suppose the grinding wheel will eventually give out but you grind so little on each tooth of the saw that I am betting it lasts a while. And the grinding wheel is about the only moving part other than the simple adjustments that are manually done without the need for any tools. For the money, this is pretty much a no-brainer for someone that does not need a commercial grinder. That’s probably most of us.

This is not comparable to a $150 sharpener, so don't get your hope unrealistically high. However, it works as it is supposed to work.I glanced at the instructions and was able to set the grinder up in less than 5 minutes, including mounting it to a 2X4 that I secured in my bench vise. I put my first chain in and spent about 2 minutes figuring out how the adjustments worked to precisely sharpen the first set of cutters. Then it took about 15 seconds to sharpen each tooth, including the time to advance to the 2nd to next tooth. It took another 2 minutes to adjust for the other cutters on the chain (the left and the right angled teeth alternate, so you sharpen half on one setting and then half on the other setting). In about 8 minutes from the start of trying to sharpen my first chain, it was sharp. Since I was already set up, I started sharpening old chains I had lying around. The 2nd chain took about 5 minutes total. The third chain even less. I think I will be about to do a chain in 3 minutes the next time, with about 3 minutes to set up the grinder on the vise and re-familiarize myself with it. That's way faster than the old method of using a file and a guide. With 3 chains sharpened, it is a break-even financial purchase right now. The next chain and I'm back in the black. That makes it well worth it.The motor is pretty weak, but it is more than sufficient for my use so far. I don't know how it will hold up, but the process of grinding a chain is not very difficult, so I don't think that will be a problem. I'll update this review if it fails in the next year. The cuts look precise. The machine is mostly plastic, as expected. It could use a bit more heft in some of the plastic, but it works well enough. If I wear it out, I'll probably take that as I sign I need a bigger one, but for now, I'm thrilled with this one.
