Having previously purchased two ‘cheap’ DAC Converter units and really struggled to get any decent level of sound through them, I decided to bite the bullet and pay a bit more for the Fosi Audio Q4 Headphone Amplifier DAC Converter. I am using this unit with a TosLink optical cable and it has exceeded all my expectations. This little device punches above its weight and delivers a remarkable listening experience that I think would be hard to match in its price range. It is a very compact and sturdy design, with a solid and premium feel to it.I am using this device with an LG Smart TV that is fitted into a bed unit (so TV rises from foot of the bed). As such, we only ever use this TV with headphones, so achieving decent sound through headphones is essential to us. As previously mentioned, I had struggled to get any decent level of sound through two cheaper versions of DAC converters (the sound levels were so quiet we had resorted to always using subtitles when watching TV), but I just left the cables in place that were used with those and plugged them into the Fosi unit – which clearly showed me there was nothing wrong with the cables I had been using and the issue was with the cheap DAC units. With the Fosi unit, everything works brilliantly and the sound quality and levels are awesome. I am not using particularly expensive headphones – they are wired and have an impedance value of 32 – which should have been good enough with the original ‘cheap’ DAC converter but simply wasn’tThe Fosi Audio Q4 Headphone Amplifier DAC Converter is an absolute gem – although it should be noted I have only tried connecting via Toslink optical cable so cannot comment on other connection options. It’s hard to believe that such a small, affordable device can provide this level of audio performance. Highly recommended!

After purchasing the unit, worked good. Loved the sound, really pushed my 58x's to their limit.Unit started violently buzzing in the left ear at normal volume and right ear at low volume.Confirmed the transformer and wire could push the power required (replaced them anyways, problem persisted), tried with my old set of headphones and problem persists. Expect this unit to only last you about 2~ months, then buy another one.Its better to spend more for a better amp with a different company.

I will admit, I was half expecting to return this item thinking that because of its price, there’s a good chance it doesn’t work well, or sounds terrible. I was absolutely wrong. - While this DAC + AMP isn’t “perfect” (it would be nice to have an additional mid adjustment knob, and slightly more amplification), you can’t beat how great it sounds given how low the price is.Currently, I’m using this dac / amp to drive Beyerdynamics 770 (80 ohm) headphones, connected to the Q4 Amp via Optical (for its higher sample and bit rate) from my computers motherboard. Going from straight motherboard sound with the Beyerdynamic 770s to properly amplified sound was an absolute game changer. The sound is crisp and the bass response is punchy. Anything you can’t find tune right on the Fossi Q4 can be EQ’d out in your sound settings on your computer, but I have yet to need to touch the software EQ.I would very highly recommend the Fossi Q4 for anyone with 80ohm or under headphones. (The listing says it can drive up to 200 ohm headphones but I think 80 ohms and down are where the Q4 really shines. As for the Q4s packaging and the Q4 itself, It ships in an unbranded box, and is a lot smaller / lighter than I was expecting it to be. The fit and finish of the Q4 is clean, it has 4 little rubber feet that keep it in place on a desk or other smooth surface quite nicely, and the knobs and switch all turn smoothly. Also, it ships with a USB C to USB A power (for 5v), Optical audio, and USB A cables so you have plenty of options for connecting to your devices! (Even all at once with a handy switch on the front of the Q4!)I rushed into buying the Q4 because I was worried about my 80 ohm headphones putting to much of a draw on my motherboards pre amp chips and frying them, and I’m very glad I did. I would buy the Q4 again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it especially at its price point.

Whey should I look for anything more? The sound quality is phenomenal. Construction is well built.Buttons are OK. The knobs have a bit of a slippery feel to them, and the eq settings are a bit weird (they have a “click” position, and the center is not really center. You kind of “guess” if its center or not). But the frequency range is quite low (+- 4-6 db?). The volume pot dosent really stop when you are near the off position. You can easily go at the off position. Which turns off the unit. But the feeling is smooth nonetheless. So basically the knobs need a bit of attention, but I personally don’t mind because I don’t touch the knobs. If you do touch the knobs quite a bit, then I would say that perhaps another unit would be better. If you don’t really touch often, then I would suggest that for 60$ Canadian you absolutely can not go wrong with this thing.I will certainly check the Fosi brand in the future. But the sound quality is A-1!

After losing five $20-30 headphone amplifiers in a row, within days or weeks, just because we're tripling the cost here doesn't necessary mean this will do better. In the q&a section one person warned me it died within two months, another person says it's been running for two years. Why a solid state device should have any life is beyond me, my beloved 50+ year old Nakamichi RE-3 receiver is still running fine.My question was, since this does not have a 3.5 audio input, can it be fed by a PC into the coaxial input with a converter? Four people said yes, one said no. It's no. So, what use is a 3.5 to coaxial conversion plug? Never mind. Since I cannot get my Dell running Windows 10 to put any sound into this through the USB route, it's useless, to me at least, as a PC headphone driver. One of the days I suppose I should get the headphone jack fixed, it's dead for some reason. Still working on that, the last headphone amp I had died, so my PC is going through the Nakamichi for awhile, rather clumsy.I also need an amp for my new Vizio TV. It also has a 3.5 audio out, forget about that. Therefore, I hooked up the optical input, and nothing, no sound at all. I checked all the connections, seemed to be okay, but just before I ripped it out to send it back to Azon, the darn thing turned on. Is there a warm-up delay?? It will be on all the time, so hopefully it will keep running. One other slight problem, the cords are absurdly too short, the optical cable isn't even as long as my TV. No biggie of course, but if you're going to put cords in the box, at least make them long enough to be useful. So, I'll live with this for awhile, and then edit the review . . . one way or the other.Ed: One thing, normally I set the volume control at about 75% on everything, and adjust the volume to my earphones through an in-line control. When set like that, I was picking up sputtering sounds on some Youboob videos, but it was fine on video files played from a USB stick (the only two ways I use the TV). Youevil volumes are much higher than typical USB files, I knew that, and the USB files play fine. I was not picking up any problems on my PC, so I switched out everything, the in-line volume wheel controls, the earphones, both combinations, and it was definitely something in the TV audio.I turns out I had the volume set waaaay too high on the Fosi box, with the in-line control taken out, the headphones were blasting. I played around with the volume knob, and lo and behold, the sputtering sounds went away. I had to fine tune it so the in-line control had enough room with both Eviltube and USB sources, which worked out to be around 55%. If you're having problems, you might try turning it down. Note, the variable audio output on my TV does not work if you plug in something to the optical output, so unless you want to get up off the couch every 30 seconds to adjust the Fosi volume, in-line controls are a must for my setup. They're very cheap, but buy them by the handful, they wear out. They work very well with YT when you run into a commercial, you can cut the volume to zero instantly.Ed: I'll bump it a star, for two reasons. First, the original unit I bought is still alive, and in the headphone amplifier world, that seems to be a real accomplishment. And, I bought another one for my 2015 Vizio, now relegated to the bedroom, and it fired up and worked as well, on optical. So now I have two of them, and I'll see how long they last. Maybe someday down the road this will get the final star. Also wik: Two months now, one is on 24/7, the other with the second TV off and on. No problems. That should be long enough for any glitches to show up.

I bought this because I needed a way to watch my movies at night while the little one sleeps. Let me tell you about the rabbit hole of options that I had ventured into. I tried Avantree Dual BT options (range was brutal), I tried USBc DACs with basic 3.5mm only out(sound quality was not good). This was the best option... yes the wires are not ideal. But let me tell you its worth the sacrifice! You can buy little inline volume controls and have a silent movie night with up to 4 people. I understand these might not be a typical problem many have but sometimes the simplest problems bring the most complicated solutions.Packaging and weight of the device are awesome has bass and treble fine adjustments which is awesome for headphones. This thing is loud, even when split into two earbuds. I imagine you could easily do up to 4 without loss of line gain.I am using this with a SHIELD 2019 Pro and it picks it up and is plug and play. I imagine anything with android 11+ can pick it up as well. Switching between inputs is easy and well! I will update on the longevity of the device when I get to the 6 month mark. There is a 1.5 year warranty of the device not sure through who, but its a warm fuzzy feeling if warranties are your thing.BONUS: My 18 month old child unpackaged the box, so you could call it frustration free packaging ;)I am an audiophile with speakers in my whole home and used to install car audio equipment. This is an excellent device for anyone trying to solve the usb/opt out audio streams to multiple headphones. Or just trying to get a little more gain from your headphones for gaming.

I had a gaming headset that broke and didn't wanna spend $200+ for another one, ended up having a old pair of beats laying around and bought this to give me better audio. Mostly use it for gaming and listening to music, for beats its really nice to be able to adjust bass and treble since they're not the best for gaming. For music its really good, having the amplifier makes its a lot louder as well as audio quality being much better. Although, I've heard better audio through DAC this is still acceptable and most people will probably not even notice a difference. Definitely recommend if you haven't used a DAC before or just looking for a better audio solution as this can be a quick and easy fix. The build quality is really nice and my only complaint is the blue USB cord as it just looks ugly and cheap, luckily I have another one laying around but I don't even use it anyways as I use the optic cable provided. Overall definitely recommend.
