The MJ Splitter themselves are a great little product. They allow you to add a splitter to most any table saw with a zero clearance insert. They allow minute lateral adjustments to accommodate slight differences in various thin kerf blades. The steel cores make these much tougher than the cheaper all-plastic variants. Finally, the plastic coating is tough and slippery which perfect for the light sliding contact with the workpiece. If installed correctly, they improve both safety and cut quality. That said, the downside - and only reason I’m not giving this product five stars - is the crazy installation procedure. The massively over-complex drill jig is frankly a joke. It obviously cost more than the Splitters themselves, but still makes it frustratingly difficult to get the four holes in the proper location. This is made worse by the needlessly wordy and complicated directions that one reviewer likened to a geometry proof.I watched several YouTube videos, very carefully followed the directions (which BTW have several errors) and still managed somehow to get the holes slightly off center. This was a big problem, because even with the maximum +++ offset setting the first splitter was far enough off center that it would pull the workpiece slightly off the fence, putting a nasty blade mark in the work edge at that point. I had no choice but to fill the holes with thickened epoxy and try again. Very aggravating after such an elaborate installation process. Here’s the deal. These four holes just need to be absolutely centered on the centerline of the kerf. That’s it. You might want to offset one pair or the other a hair toward the fence (not away as the directions state!). This will allow that splitter to gently press the workpiece against the fence, featherboard style. On attempt number two, I just drew lines from the edges of the kerf cutout in the zero clearance insert, then drilled the new holes very carefully using my drill press. Bingo! It’s all good now, but wow what a needless ordeal. If I had it to do over again, I’d just buy a pair of replacement MJ Splitters for less than half the price of this kit, place and drill the holes manually, and let MicroJig keep the rest of the fluff.

I have a Rigid contractor table saw that dose;t have a riving knife installed. When making cuts that the provided guard does not really allow, but does have a splitter in it, I get nervous about not having that knife. I bought a wood composite zero clearance insert for the saw on Etsy and the seller recommended this ripper addition to address the lack of a riving knife.Bought the kit in May of 2024, and recently got around to needing to rip some wood for jamb extensions where the zero clearance insert would help. So I pulled out the kit and proceeded to work my way through the instructions, carefully making the needed cuts in the installation plywood (scrap from my "woodyard") and working with the instructions to set the splitters up on the insert.I did go back and read the instructions repeatedly while installing to make sure I was doing it right, but it all worked out perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Felt a lot better cutting the thin jamb extensions with this on the saw. Highly recommended.

They work as advertised. A great addition to our table saw inserts.

Very easy to set-up and install. Just read the included instructions or video online. Works well to keep your cut piece from wandering away from the fence. My only problem is they seem a little pricey for what you get, but I guess you can't put a price on safety.

I bought this to use on a ZCT made of 1/2” phenolic and my first attempt was a small disaster. The phenolic is difficult to drill and the fixture is not ridge enough to keep the drill from walking so the first hole was out of line and nothing worked to fix the problem.I emailed the manufacturer and was pleasantly surprised by the quick response. Ralph, the gentleman I spoke to admitted this was a known problem, that they had a short video on how to address phenolic plates but had not yet modified the instructions included in the package. He verified the type of ZCT I was using and 2 days later a new fixture and ZCT arrived. He suggested using the fixture to spot the holes and then using a drill press to finish them. As I don’t have a drill press, one of the few tools I’m missing, I used a drill guide and the new installation is exactly as advertised.

My splitters all arrived with the coating cracked, I'm not impressed with the quality control, considering this is a safety device. I am returning the Steelpro Splitter and I'll try the standard one next time.

The splitter is absolutely a old table saw saver if you are doing 90 degree cuts on most all of the time. Installation guide is kind of hard to understand but there are some great sponsored video on youtube that I could easily refer to, so not a big deal as well. However, the only thing I am concerning now is about the plastic coats on the splliters. THEY ARE NOT DURABLE AT ALL. I got my first spillter package then 4 of them are all have LARGE cracks on it. I thought it should be normal but after I checked the comments on AMAZON.COM I found a couple of person complained about the coats too. Once I realized the crack should be the quality problem, I submitted an replacement. The second one arrived very quick. However, It still have cracks on ALL of them, despite the cracks are much lesser than the previous one. I am not kinda picky person, so I choose to keep it, but I am really worry about if the cracks gonna cause any safety problem in future.I wish I really could give it 5 star because I am really stratified how the idea come up with, and the great service of AMAZON. but due to the quality control of the coats on the splliter, I can only give it four stars. And I will keep watching it; if one day the cracks became large, I probably would come back and lower the rating.

I purchased a Micro Jig splitter several years ago when they first appeared. Since then it has been much improved which prompted me to upgrade. If you are serious about safety using a table saw then you to have some kind of device to prevent kick-back. It will only ever happen to you once before you realize how dangerous it is!! Most saws come with a riving knife but it can be inconvenient to install and remove. It will prevent wood from pinching after the blade whereas the Micro Jig pro does that and hold the wood against fence.

I have an older table saw that doesn't have a viable method of attaching a riving knife and found out about this product. In conjunction with a lee valley zero clearance insert I now have a splitter system that significantly increases table saw safety. I definitely recommend this for any table saw that doesn't have a riving knife.

What a wonderful product! Really well made and high quality.I have a stock riving knife which came with my table saw, but it was designed for 1/8 full kerf blade. When I put on my newly acquired 0.91 thin kerf rip cut blade, the stock riving knife was too thick for this new baby. After having purchased and installed MJ splitter, I am very happy because I can now use this thin kerf blade to rip all kinds of lumber safely. It works perfectly with a zero clearance insert (ZCI) dedicated to this new blade. BTW, my new thin kerf blade cuts much better than my old full kerf blade.I also love the mini feather board feature of MJ splitter. Properly installed, the double splitters would push wood pieces slightly away from the blade after cutting, making safer and more accurate cut. I am thinking about buying another set of MJ splitters (1/8 kerf version) to replace the stock riving knife for my full kerf cross cut blade (even though I will have to buy another new ZCI), because I think MJ splitters works better than riving knifes. I personally know how scary and dangerous it could be when kick back happens on a table saw. Splitters (or riving knifes) is the single most important safety caution you can take to prevent kick backs.BTW, for those who considers this product but have read about complaints of having difficulty drilling into plastic ZCI, make sure you use a 3/16 plastic drill bit to drill into plastic ZCI, instead of the general purpose drill bit comes with the package (which is good to drill into wood insert). You need to make sure the holes to be clean and tight. A $5 3/16 plastic drill bit is critical for a proper installation of MJ splitters, if you plan to use a plastic ZCI.I think MJ splitter should be installed on every woodworker's table saw. Highly recommended!!
