DANGEROUS CHARGING OPTIONS; They use standard USB connectors but produce 13Volts not 5 Volts, so if you accidentally use one of these chargers to charge your phone or other devices that use a standard USB A charging cable you will destroy your phone or other device. A charger with a USB A port is only supposed to supply 5 Volts per the industry recognized USB standards. These produce 12 volts, providing ample opportunity for someone to destroy their phone or other device by mistakenly using these charger(s)As far as the radio itself; I have a 'brand name' handheld Marine radio, and an onboard marine radio, both simple to use and easy display menus telling you what the radio is doing. I have a marine radio license, and use a radio regularly when on the water. Bought this to have a spare handheld. The printed manual is so-so in it's descriptions of the functions of the radio. The LCD display shows the menu items, such as scan, power, etc, but the LCD menu titles (acronyms and short forms) to get to the different functions are hard to identify, you almost need the printed manual all the time. I had it on scan (checked this over and over) going into 4 different ports and marinas. It did not pick up one transmission when in scan mode. I couldn't recommend this to anyone for their boat, but maybe for a curious individual on shore that wants to listen to radio traffic at a marina. Still don't recommend it, simply because of the probable accidental use of the charger with a phone or other device.

Very basic radio built quality was as expected not bad but not bake brand quality. Be careful with the power output on cheaper radios these can be half the power of a name brand radio giving you half the distance give or take. Mine came missing some of the accessories in the box but was a new unit. Contacted the seller and heard nothing so I returned it and bought a better brand. I would buy again if I needed a cheap disposable radio just don't expect perfection.

I bought this to replace an old style marine VHS because I couldn't find a replacement charger base. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the performance of this compact radio. During a half-day sailboat race, it got wet, and there were no issues. I still have 2/3 of the battery life left. It's effective in loud conditions, and I've used it to hear the race committee, though I haven't transmitted with it yet. The built-in speaker provides loud and clear audio that's easily audible over wind and waves. According to feedback, my transmitted audio is loud and clear too. I've tested it in 20-knot winds and found the microphone's audio quality impressive.While it's waterproof, it doesn't float well enough to be considered a floating radio. On the positive side, it comes with rechargeable AAA batteries, easily replaceable with various recharging options. The package includes a high-voltage wall charger and car charger with a USB, but there are warnings not to use them for anything else. Charging instructions suggest not exceeding 8 hours, and the light doesn't change colors when fully charged.I've successfully communicated with boats across the bay, about 3 or 4 miles away, which aligns with the expected range of a 3W radio. As a basic radio, it passes the crucial test of enabling communication with boats in proximity. Some reviewers mentioned issues with the squelch, but I find this radio very intuitive. Press the volume/squelch button once to adjust the volume (named VOL), and push it again for squelch adjustment (named SQL).
