It is important to note that the secret button on this latch is hidden on the bottom. The bottom button version is difficult to find. The button on top latch may be a better latch than the button on the bottom version, I don't know. However, this latch is okay for a door that will not be used more than once or twice a week. It is a low-impact, low-usage latch. We were asked to install this latch in a commercial setting (the half door at a pet salon). The latch was completely worn out and broken within four days. The replacement, which came direct from the manufacturer, did not last any longer. Two latches in ten days crumbled and fell apart. It would have worked great in a low-use residential setting, but it cannot handle too much use.

I looked forever for a latch to use on a custom baby gate i was going to make. It was so hard to find a lock that would have childproofing, that also wasnt made for outdoors for pools. This was the perfect lock for the job and feels well built.

We had to mount this to a gate in our house to prevent our autistic son from going up the stairs when we were not with him. He has been able to figure out some of the simple lock, but this hidden one has him fooled for now.

This clever mechaanism isenough to keep a child or smart German Shepherd from opening a latch. Installation was fairly straightforward and theparts work smoothly. I would not use this for serious security, just a deterrent. I am using it on a gate in the back of our greenhouse. Satisfied so far.
