The perfect cable when you build a Roland MT-32 emulator with MT32-pi and want to connect it from the serial port of your PC to the USB port of your Raspberry Pi. Other cheap cables won’t work…

I bought one of these cables a couple years ago to talk to my Agilent 34401A precision meter and have been happily using it since. Recently I tried buying a less expensive one from another vendor and was sadly disappointed that while the cable was recognized by my computer, it failed to communicate with my meter. So, I just bought a second one of these, and it simply works. It's so lovely to have a thing just work... and this cable works.

Updated my Revenge From Mars pinball machine using the recompiled fupdate by Brian Peek (google "pinball 2000 brian peek").First attempt and fupdate crashed partway through. Luckily the P2K system has a fail-safe for corrupted update code and just reverts to factory ROMs. Second attempt I put all files in the same folder as fupdate.exe and ignored the -p switch syntax. Worked perfectly.

Make sure to read your devices manual or call support to find out exactly what type of serial connection is needed to connect. There's many standards and you'll need the right cable with the correct chip and correct header to make your connection work. So investigate before you purchase. My serial cable works well and is made with quality materials and communication chip.

Worked as advertised. Used it to connect to Trimble GPS. Trimble only connects to a null modem cable

Finally my PC does not crash any more. This product does not use the well known Prolific driver which is not completely compatible with Win 7 and later releases. If you use the USB to serial devices a lot to stage equipment, change settings or connect through a console cable and you get the "Blue Screen of Death" then this product is your solution.

Although a simple seeming device, the USB to Serial converter can be somewhat harder to implement cleanly. This unit is well designed without a lot of bulk, and sometimes that is a high priority. So far it shows no idiosyncrasies and functions well with various software set needing a serial port interface - something lacking on newer laptops.I am involved in servicing a lot of legacy equipment and a serial port is often the only alternative.I recommend it to anyone needing RS232 serial access.
