For a traditional look and feel these wooden and steel tools are great. Swanson makes good affordable stuff. Can’t go wrong!

I ordered two of those T bevel. One of them came without the round bolt and screw. Therefore unable to tighten the tool for use. Disappointed...

I received mine today. The wood looked dried out and was rough. I took some 00 Steel Wool and Johnson's Paste Wax. I first lightly sanded the wood with the steel wool. It was much smoother, actually silky smooth. I then waxed the wood with the paste wax and rubbed it off. The wood then had a much richer color and felt better in the hand. The steel wool did a great job. It didn't take much wood off the handle. You have to be careful you don't ruin the parallel sides which could destroy the accuracy of the tool. Here is a photo of the finished result.

I use a cheap plastic bevel gauge regularly and I'm quite happy with it. I bought this as a gift for one of my helpers because I thought it would be a handsome tool he could hold onto, and it seemed to be made of nice materials. It's more or less as advertised but the execution is less than stellar. The good: it works as a bevel gauge. It's wood, brass and stainless steel. The blade has a ruler which may or may not come in handy. The screw holds the blade in place relatively well. The bad: The handle has some sharp edges and unevenness from manufacture that needs to be cleaned up, but this can be done with some sandpaper. The worst aspect is that the brass knob that tightens the blade protrudes from the handle and prevents the tool from laying flat and being used on that side, it's one-sided. This is a problem with many (but not all) bevel gauges, and I'm taking off two stars for this alone because this is a stupid problem to deal with in a very simple tool that should be easy to perfect. I don't need a ruler on my bevel gauge, I need a tool which flips over and fits everywhere I need to use it, without changing the angle on the blade. Overall: it's not too expensive and it works, but the nice materials are compromised by the mediocre finish and functionality.

Mine came with a Padauk (African Hardwood) body which was unexpected for the price paid ($12). The brass was proud of the handle on the edges so I quickly sanded it flush and rounded off the sharp corners. After that I put a quick coat of wax on it and it looks like a very high end sliding bevel gauge.

I'm pretty religious in reading Amazon reviews before I purchase something. Generally this tool received positive reviews. It deserved them all. It's a well made sliding T-Bevel. What I don't understand is why some people gave it a negative rating since the tool is fit for purpose, and the wooden handle with brass fitting looks sharp.
