- Stud mode, the stud finder starts with stud mode with 1/2 inch(12.7mm). And you can switch to deep mode to find the deeper stud, you can switch to 1 inch(25.4mm) or 11/2 inch(38mm) to detective deeper stud.
- Metal mode, if you need to detective materials like metal pipe, steel bar and rebar, you can switch to metal mode.
- AC wire mode, AC mode is automaticly detecting while use metal mode and stud mode. The WireWarning Detection Icon will flash when live, unshielded wires are detected.
HOW TO USE THE WALL SCANNER?
Step 1
Place the device against the wall, then press and hold the calibration button to calibrate this tool. Wait for the reducing bars to disappear and beep to confirm calibration has been completed.
Step 2
After finishing calibration, you can release the calibration button. Then move the stud finder along the wall slowly, do not shake or lift the scanner accidentally, or the device needs to be re-calibrated.
Step 3
When the signal bar is full and the beep alarm is loudest, it means you have found the center of an object. Mark it with your pencil. And then start your drilling work.

Since moving into our new home, I have used the TOLYS stud finder to put up quite literally everything on our walls - From towel racks and hooks, all the way to mirrors and TV mounts. This tool has been extremely handy and very easy to use once you get the hang of it. You simply have to "calibrate" it once when starting it up and then it will provide consistent results. I usually knock on the drywall to locate an audibly empty spot (i.e. no studs behind it), put the stud finder up and press the side button to calibrate it to my desired setting (usually 1/2"), then it does a 3 second count down and its ready to use. The display is large and easy to read, and so far I haven't even had to change the included battery. I've installed hardware in 4 bathrooms, my hallways, and my family room - Very impressed, and great value compared to some other more expensive options at the department stores. Another bonus is it detects current, even if you're not in the AC setting, the little red light will light up if you're in close proximity to a live wire.

Yeah it works. Not perfect but combined with tape measure to double check stud distance works well enough.
