USBtinyISP, ISP AVR programmer for Atmega Attiny Arduino is an extremely popular ISP programming device and tested with Windows, macOS, and Linux. We recommend using the driver packages from the download section below. USBtinyISP is compatible with AVRDUDE version 5.5 and newer and is supported by Arduino IDE. Within the Arduino IDE, it can be selected to burn the boot loader on a blank chip or to upload your sketches on Arduino chips and board without a boot loader (this saves some memory). USBtinyISP only works with controllers with 64kB or less memory (for example Atmega 2560 with 256kB is not supported).

Our USBtinyISP comes with a 6-pin cable, compatible with the standard ICSP header like on Arduino boards.

Specs:
  • PCB size 28.5 x 56.5 mm
  • Standard USB-B connection to PC/Mac
  • 10- and 6-pin header for the programming cable
  • 6-pin cable for Arduino boards included
  • LEDs for power and communication
  • Jumper for power supply (read the documentation!!)
  • USB cable as an option (30 cm / 1 ft)
Downloads:
  • Documentation from Adafruit Industries (basically the same device)
  • AVRDUDE download and documentation
  • Driver package for Windows (please read the documentation)
  • CANADUINO USBtinyISP datasheet

Using an UNO as an ISP works fine; I've thrown one together on many an occasion. You can even, with a little added circuitry, make one compatible with a 3.3V target. But this little programmer does it so much simpler. Remove the jumper if you want to use the target's power (3.3V or 5V), plug in the 6 pin header and the USB cable and you're ready to go.For Linux, you'll have to add a udev rule to give your user access to the device. Create the file "/etc/udev/rules.d/99-USBtinyISP.rules" and add the following text to it:UBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1781", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0c9f", GROUP="ADM", MODE="0666"You may also have to add your user to the plugdev group.

Cannot find any real documentation for use of the product - if you are not a teck geek then find out how to use this before you buy it - sparkfun has an actual plug in at tiny module - as I thought this one was .
