As others have stated, the carriage bolts are too long. My husband just cut them off to an appropriate length. That’s the only reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars

I had to replace the carriage bolts because the ones that came with are too long and stick out too far to be safe. The bolts had a rubber cap that would easily wear off and leave sharp metal exposed where it could easily poke a horse or person. It was very cheap to replace them with a slightly shorter bolt but inconvenient.

Overall a nice stirrup, but some major issues. 1- the bolt that goes through the top sticks out over half an inch from the edge. This will either be poking my horse or sticking out and likely to get caught on something else. I'll probably be cutting the bolt off at the nut. 2- the wood is quite rough on the inside. They need a good sanding with a fine grain paper and a nice coat or two of varnish so that the sides don't rub my son's boots. Not sure if I'll be keeping these, but if I do, I'll be working on them first.
