Great for doing a quick check. Seems more accurate than analog load tester.

I've ended up with a huge pile of car batteries, and wanted to check their states of health. Whilst this isn't an all-singing/all-dancing tester (no cranking or starting charge tests), it does the basics and does them well and, more importantly, accurately. The device is simply powered by the car battery you are testing (bad luck if the battery is completely out of juice), with strong crocodile clips (red to positive terminal, black to negative terminal) and press ENT.The device defaults to CCA, so use the downwards arrow key to select EN (which is what we use in the UK, and what your car battery should be labelled as), then use the arrow keys to set the 'actual' value for your battery (as on the label). Then press ENT.After a few seconds you will be presented with :ENT - the value you entered (in amps)ACT - the actual value measured by the meter (in amps)press the arrow down buttonthe next value is the internal resistance of the battery in micro Ohms (high = bad, low = good)SOH - state of health as a percentage, taking into account the advertised cold cranking amps of the battery, and the internal resistance - obviously the higher the percentage the betterpress the arrow own buttonthe next value is the measured voltage of the batterySOC - state of charge as a percentage - higher is betterAcross the top will be a small series of blocks and the reader will tell you what the overall condition of the battery is - the more blocks the better. The leaflet tells you what the condition (either FAIL, LOW, PASS or GOOD) means.I tested a brand new battery and as expected, SOH was 100%, SOC about 96% (to allow for time standing on the shelf at the retailers).A nearly new, virtually unused battery (after charging) read SOH 96%, SOH 100%A battery that had been giving me trouble was SOH 56%, SOC 100% - I'd put it back on the van and it was flat again within days. If you just rely upon the voltage of the battery it tells you nothing - the state of health SOH is the key measure. On one battery (measuring 3V on a multimeter) the tester would not work, so it does appear to have a lower required voltage to work, although one measuring 8V did provide enough power, although the tester was flashing the bad battery light.Coupled with a NOCO Genius5 charger, I am looking to get some of these batteries back to good health, and this tester makes it easy to see the impact the repair mode on the NOCO has on seemingly dead batteries (the 56% SOH one above is already up to 61% after one cycle of the repair mode). The device is incredibly light and plasticky (probably a very simple circuit board) so don't drop it as I fear it may shatter, and as others have commented the display is poor outdoors, fine indoors. The clips are very strong.Well worth the money and cheaper than other testers.

I bought this to have a spare and for the price it it can't be beat. I compared tests between my $400.00 tester and this one and they are virtually the same results for multiple batteries with both testers. This one has more to offer actually with the extra readings it gives. Very pleased with my purchase. Clamps may be hard to fit on a powersport battery as they are chunky but I'm sure it's possible. Great product.

Updating after using it for a month. This works really well. Gives you detailed information on the battery condition. It's consistent and accurate with the information it provides. The plastic does feel cheap and hollow. However for the price is a great but. It's does what it's supposed to and gives results similar to the more expensive tool that the guys at Lordco lend out. I just wanted one at home to make it more convenient to test my car battery. This one works, but feels like it would shatter of dropped. Thinking I should have spent a little more and picked up a tool that did a more complete test. Something like theTOPDON AB101 Car Battery Tester 12vhttps://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07DDDDSK9/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_6X3AGDWYW16P2X9KKM2C

Amazing product, I was impressed the moment I opened the box, very heavy duty clamps with a strong sping, nice long cable and the unit is bigger than I thought. Very easy to use and accurate. It verified my thoughts on my battery life. This thing has already saved me money. I'm sure it will last many years, awesome addition to the toolbox. I hope the seller does not see this but it is worth twice the money.I highly recommend this product

I just got this yesterday, but proceeded to check every battery that I have (car, truck, atv, motorcycle, old batteries now in a solar system). The old batteries that are connected to my solar panel in the shed have very low amps, as expected. My truck battery is only 2.5 years old and is already showing low CCA -- fortunately it is under warranty so I returned it and got a new one. Without this tool I would not have suspected that my truck battery was going bad already -- so this tool already saved me $150 (cost of a new battery if I didn't exchange the old one before the warranty was up).I highly recommend this tool or one like it for anyone who has a vehicle with a 12v battery -- I already don't know how I maintained so many machines before! The tool itself is well made with good clamps and is very easy to use.I do not know 100% how accurate it is, but the numbers given are what I expected: older well used batteries have high resistance and low CCA, newer less used batteries have low resistance and high CCA -- makes sense.

You can easily test the voltage (charge state) of your battery with a multimeter you likely already have. That is like testing air pressure in tire. This and similar devices are designed to test how much life (basically max amps under load and capacity or how long it can keep up the high amps). You can tell how much tread life a tire has left by looking at it - but not with a battery.A new correctly sized auto battery has far more power than need to start your vehicle under normal conditions. It has this extra power to deal with 2 things - unavoidable internal battery deterioration over time and unusually high power demand in extreme cold weather and / or a minor engine problem that needs more cranking time. Ideally you want to replace your battery before deterioration over time results in insufficient power when you need it.Older and more expensive battery testers used a big resistor (which got really hot) to test under load. Newer units like this are all electronic. I tested 3 same size batteries. Brand new showed 100% of original capacity and just over 100% of promised CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). 2 1/2 years old 90% of capacity and 85% of original CCA. 6 years old 30% of capacity and 20% of original CCA. (The 6 year old battery easily started my SUV instantly in just below freezing temperatures but I replaced it to be confident that I don't have a failure later this winter.) These are the results I expected and repeated tests of the same battery gave very close results. I think this device gives accurate results. As is often the case with China brands the 1 page instruction sheet isn't great but you should be OK. You hook up the clips to the auto battery which powers the device. You input the original CCA of the battery (from the battery label) using arrow keys up and down. Press enter and 10 seconds later you have the results. Actual CCA vs original. Capacity % vs original also labelled Fail, Low, Pass, or Good. Pushing the arrow keys will give other results which are less meaningful to me.
