I used it for measuring around some natural stones to fit together some walls and paths in the garden. It does the job but the little knobs don't clamp quite enough for you to be casual with it after getting the shape set so it sometimes will slide out of position as you move. If you need extreme precision and will be moving around a site with it then you might want to go for a higher spec one but if you just need it for small projects confined to one room it should get the job done for you.

the hardware is encased in a plastic knob that acts like a washer. it's impossible to lock it down. Perhaps if it had metal wingnut it might work but I'm not spending money to make a poor design work
