It’s a pretty house but as far as being able to observe the occupants it’s not feasible. Due to the roof design you cannot lift the observation door high enough to view the interior of the nest. Basically it is a clean out door.

I had a Carolina wren that would sleep under my porch roof every night during the summer and early fall. I decided to put up this birdhouse to see if he would winter in it. The first two days he squawked at it. Next two he investigated it, and finally on day 5 he moved in. It's sturdy, easy to hang, easy to clean, and has a plexiglass side under the wood so you can view the interior if you want. Apparently, it's Carolina wren approved!

I am very pleased with this nice birdhouse. It is robust with 3/4" long lasting cedar. The birdhouse appears to be manually constructed rather than machine assembly made. Accordingly, don't expect absolute perfection. One of the screws holding a side to a roof panel did not successfully engage the edge of the roof panel. I had to take out the screw, fill the hole with wood filler, and relocate it. I noticed that one of the pivot screws in the viewing wood panel was originally not on target and I could see where putty had been used to fill the hole before relocating the screw. Finally, the roof halves had a tiny gap where they met and I had to fill in the gap with sealant to avoid water eventually getting to the inside. These are minor items that anyone with basic woodworking skills can remedy. Having a viewing window on the side is a plus at this price point. Also, I like the plastic nest support rather than the flimsy thing gauge wire found on other birdhouses. Unlike some items at this price point, the entry hole was covered by a wood guard including a metal predator protector. Finally, there are kerf cuts on the inside front panel to enable the birds to get a foothold when exiting. I summary, I recommend this birdhouse.
