Cultivate Crisp Joy: JNB's Lettuce Variety Collection Thrives in Canadian Indoor

Indoor Planting:

  • Gather Your Materials: Collect all necessary materials: JNB's Lettuce Seed Variety Pack, seed starting mix, seed trays with drainage holes, a spray bottle, a plastic cover or wrap, and a reliable light source.
  • Choose the Right Container: Select clean seed trays or containers with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Sanitize them to minimize the risk of disease.
  • Prepare Seed Starting Mix: Use a high-quality seed starting mix, ensuring it's well-draining. Moisten the mix before filling the containers to provide an ideal environment for seed germination.
  • Planting Seeds: Create furrows or small indentations in the soil using a stick or your finger. Plant JNB's Lettuce seeds at a depth of about 1.27 cm and space them approximately 5.08 cm apart. Gently cover the seeds with soil.
  • Watering: Moisten the soil evenly using a spray bottle. Avoid overwatering to prevent damping-off disease. Place the containers on a tray to catch excess water and maintain humidity.
  • Covering the Containers: Cover the containers with a plastic wrap or lid to create a greenhouse effect. This helps retain moisture and warmth, promoting seed germination. Keep the cover on until the seeds sprout.
  • Provide Adequate Light: Once the seeds sprout, remove the plastic cover and place the containers under a reliable light source. A sunny windowsill or artificial grow lights can ensure the seedlings receive sufficient light for healthy growth.
  • Transplanting Seedlings: When the seedlings have grown their first true leaves and are a few centimeters tall, transplant them into larger containers or individual pots. This provides more space for root development.
  • Harden Off and Transplant Outdoors: Before transplanting the seedlings outdoors, gradually expose them to outdoor conditions through a process called hardening off. Place them outside for increasing durations over several days. Once hardened off, transplant the seedlings into well-prepared, nutrient-rich soil in your outdoor garden. Follow these steps to enjoy a bountiful harvest of diverse lettuce varieties grown from JNB's Lettuce Seed Variety Pack in the comfort of your Canadian home. Happy gardening!

Outdoor Bounty: Explore JNB Seed's Lettuce Variety Pack for Garden Extravaganza

Outdoor Planting:

  • Choose the Right Location: Select a sunny location for your outdoor garden, ensuring it receives at least 6–8 hours of sunlight daily. Well-drained soil with good fertility is ideal for lettuce.
  • Prepare the Soil: Loosen the soil to a depth of 15-20 cm using a garden fork or tiller. Amend the soil with compost or well-rotted manure to enhance fertility.
  • Sow the Seeds: Create rows with a spacing of 30 cm between each row. Sow JNB's Lettuce seeds at a depth of 1.27 cm. Space the seeds 5 cm apart within the rows.
  • Watering: Water the soil thoroughly after sowing to ensure good seed-to-soil contact. Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root diseases.
  • Thinning Seedlings: Once the seedlings reach a height of 5 cm, thin them to maintain proper spacing. Leave the healthiest and strongest seedlings, spacing them 15 cm apart.
  • Mulching: Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as straw or shredded leaves, around the plants. Mulching helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer according to package instructions when the lettuce plants reach a height of 10 cm. Repeat the fertilization process every 4-6 weeks.
  • Pest and Disease Management: Monitor the garden for pests like aphids and caterpillars. Use organic pest control methods and keep the garden free from debris to prevent diseases.
  • Harvesting: Harvest the lettuce when the leaves are young and tender, typically around 45-55 days after planting. Use clean scissors to cut the leaves above the soil level. By following these steps, you'll cultivate a thriving outdoor garden of diverse lettuce varieties from JNB's Lettuce Seed Variety Pack, ensuring a fresh and flavorful harvest in your Canadian landscape. Happy gardening!

Used 3 seeds in each pod, and at least 2 seeds of the white and red lettuces sprouted quickly in my hydroponic garden. The only seeds that didn’t sprout were the black lettuce seeds. I haven’t tried them again yet as the other heads are taking up the room. Growth in 2nd picture is at 3 weeks.

I bought the pack of 5 different pea varieties. Not one seed sprouted from any of the packs. Very disappointed.

some less than others. The leaf lettuces had the lowest germination rate, while the head lettuces were at about 50%. It was a surprise, because I've never had difficulty growing leaf lettuces before. With the cost of lettuce in the grocery stores, I decided to do more this year. Had to some new seeds from a different supplier in the end.

I like to grow my own salad greens indoors year round. These seeds are very reliable. I've even started planting with more space because it seems like every single seed produces a plant. Will definitely be repurchasing.
