It did the job, but I would call this a one time use product. Pins bend, tools heads break.

It’s a bit cumbersome to use. It’s not a premium refined tool. Magnets in the back plate would have been nice but it got the job done with my 520 chain. Zero issues. Riveted the link and all. Not sure how people are breaking theirs. You don’t need the strength of Hercules to rivet a link. Use calipers and rivet until you get the rivet size specified my your chain.

As the title says I used this to replace the chain on my 2001 Yamaha R6. Went from the stock chain (532 pitch) to a 520. I used it to break the OEM chain, shorten (removed 2 links) my new chain and to press on the new master link and mushroom the rivets.I think I know where people are going wrong and causing this tool to break. This is my first time doing a motorcycle chain and using a tool like this but, I almost made a mistake myself which I am sure would have lead to the tool breaking. IN fact I started to tighten the tool in order to push out a link pin on my OEM chain and something just told me to back off and look at what I was doing. I knew the tool was susceptible to breaking due to all of the reviews not just for this tool but the dozens of other tool sets that look exactly like it on Amazon. So why would it break? I believe it would break if too much stress were to be placed on the pin if the pin was not perfectly straight. If you press the pin in directly straight, then the tool is a strong as a solid piece of metal as thick as the pin is long. But on an angle, the pin is only as strong as a piece of solid metal as thick as the pins diameter if that make sense. So it comes in the box semi assembled. DO NOT use it as it comes assembled in the package. For my chain for instance, I switch out the pin for the thickest one in the set, BUT the key is, you have to change the end that the pin protrudes from to fir the size of the pin you are using. That's the key. If you use the correct tip with a hole the same size as the pin you use, the pin cannot wiggle side to side, thus it cannot be pushed at an angle other than straight up and down and I contend that if you set it up right, you wouldn't be able tp break this tool by over tightening. So those are my thoughts. I just couldn't bring myself to spend over $100 for one of the expensive chain tools considering I may never even have a need to use it more than once. PLUS there were reviews that stated it worked find without breaking so I had to assume that with proper setup, the tool would hold up to working on the size chains it advertises. To summarize, before you try to push a chain link pin out or mushroom a rivet, just make sure that you can't wiggle the pin side to side. If it moves back and forth more then just a tiny bit, STOP, re-assess and figure out why the pin wiggles and what you can do to prevent it using the various attachments included. Don't just try to brute force it as they will inevitably lead to tool failure. Everything you need is in the kit. I was shocked at just how easy it was to break the OEM chain which is thick and heavy. It only took a couple of half-turns with a standard 3/8" drive ratchet and a 14mm socket before you could feel the pin break through and move and then your basically done and the finish line is in sight. Good Luck!

While on first glance, it appears to be a sturdy product, the riveting die is useless. The material is far too soft, and is deformed by the chain pin.Because i have the tools, I has able to machine back the original punch material, drill it out, and replaced it with a piece of a broken 7/32" drill bit, sharpened to resemble a center punch. This worked like a charm!!I will be keeping it, as I will not be using it too often and I do not wish to invest in a more expensive kit.

I bought this tool kit to simply rivet the connecting link on my new motorcycle chain. It failed horribly for two reasons. This set as is should not be sold. I will send back for refund.1. The alignment of the threaded hole was off, so the tool was not pushing straight. When i fitted the chain breaking pin, it was not centred, but as i mentioned, this was not the reason I bought the tool.2. The rivet flair tool was so soft that it simply deformed when trying to rivet the connecting link. I had to make my own tool in the end to finish the job.

Can't beat Japan steel with China steel. The tool works great for all the steps, except the last one to replace a chain. This will not compress the rivet on a master link. The tool's accessory insert to provided this feature is made of soft metal and trying so on a motorcycle chain will ruin that accessory. This tool will not push a rivet through a master link unless the rivet head is ground off first.

I used it on my 525 motorcycle chain and it works great. Just watch a good YouTube video on how to use and you'll have no issues. I don't know what some people are complaining about. Best money spent for a professional looking rivet.

I should have listened to the other reviews. Everything was going really smooth until it was time to do the final rivet. I measured the pin with my calliper then used the riveter insert. Contact plus one turn. It didn't look any different and my calliper showed 0.000" difference. I looked at the riveting ball only to see that it completely deformed around my pin. So now i have a bike i can't ride until i can get a proper quality chain tool:(

Not so great. Dont buy it. or any of the other 10 for sale that look just like this kit. Nice assortment in kit, nice case, but some parts defective and tolerances of machined parts are pretty sloppy. Crooked holes etc. Had to drill out the push anvil. Just tried to swage a 525 link with hallow link pins and it pretty much ruined the entire tool. No instructions either, not an obvious process. Put a good quality ball bearing next time and do some product QA and it would be good chain break. Don't buy or try to use this

Bought this to shorten a motorcycle chain. Nice to have the right tool!It took me no time at all to pop the rivet.Tool body is solid and it's good to have a few different sizes of pins to use for different chains. No instructions but easy to figure out by looking at the pictures on the amazon page.

good solid build. I have not had a chance to use it yet but it looks solid and well put together.I think this is a home shop tool. the thing could sink the Titanic it is so heavy. I was hoping to take it on a road trip just incase but there is no way I am lugging this behemoth around on my bike. It could break the kickstand and tip my bike.I do like the case so it all stays together and you are not missing parts when you need them the most.
