キット自体は2016年に登場した物で、本製品はデカールとパッケージを変更した再販キットです。1/72スケールのF4F-4はより新しいアロマホビー製もありますが、ディテールやモールドのシャープさではアロマホビー製が勝るものの、本製品は飛行状態や主翼を折り畳み状態に再現できるアドバンテージがあります。本製品も基本的なプロポーションやディテールは優れているので、このスケールではベストと呼べるキットでしょう。マーキングは、トーチ作戦時の空母レンジャー所属機(VF-41)と、ガダルカナルの米海兵隊(VMF-221)のエースである、ジェームズ・エルムズ・スウェット中尉(15.5機撃墜)乗機の二種が付属します。スウェット中尉機は垂直尾翼に描かれたヘアレスジョーのキャラクターが目を引きますが、このマーキングはガダルカナル配備後に削除されており、スウェット中尉はこの機体で1943年4月7日に九九艦爆を7機撃墜しましたが、この戦闘でこの機体も撃墜されて失われています。(スウェット中尉は脱出して無事)デカールは近年のエアフィックススタンダードと言える、カルトグラフ製が付属するので品質は安心です。エアフィックスのキットは、気がつけば市場から姿を消しているのが常なので、早めの確保をお勧めします。

ワイルドキャットの武骨さを良く再現したキットだと思います。アルマホビーのキットに比べパーツ数も少なく組み立てやすそうです。あまり細かい事は考えず「サクッ！」組上げるといいと思います。
