Read the 1-star reviews. The problem is that the linkage loosens up, and once it's loose, at first it won't cut and later it won't even plant the rivet. It's supposed to ratchet tighter each squeeze, but by the time you hit resistance there's no room left.The cause is simple. The two nuts in the handle loosen up. It happens fastest if you rotate the head counterclockwise. Apparently the lock nut sometimes isn't tightened down enough at the factory. I had to get the job done, so I got the Stanley and returned this one.I believe the fix is to take it completely apart so that you can get to these two nuts and tighten them. Be sure to tighten the outer one really tight, or use threadlock. Beware: putting the top half back together is a bit of a puzzle. I used a 4" length of stiff wire to use as a guide to get the little parts back in and oriented properly, before replacing the spring.

I thought it was just me. I got this today and used it almost right away. The first rivet was fine but on the second rivet, it would not release the pin after it popped off the rivet. I had to double check to make sure I had used the right fitting for the rivet chosen and it was correct. I had to get a very small drill bit and push the popped rivet pin from the jaws of death, and hope the drill bit did not take its place, which it tried to. I had to do this for the next 5 rivets. I even tried a different size rivet with its appropriate fitting and the same thing happens. Once the tool starts doing this there seems to be no resolution except returning it while you can. If you have had yours less than 30 days return it. If you have it in your cart ready to buy, delete it and try something else.
