Somehow the world has made me come back to this product page a little over 8 years later and I figured I would write a quick review.TL;DR - Charger works well and has given me zero issues.Pros:The cord is plenty long for my garage outlet so I don't even need an extension cord when plugging in my "race car" as my kids call it. I only get to drive it once every few weeks so I throw this charger on there just to not worry about the battery possibly going dead. The power inverter is in the middle and can be mounted so you could possibly run power from an outlet, mount it on the wall or a workbench, and then have a good amount of cable to plug in a battery, depending on your application. It includes several ways to connect to the battery terminals. I just use the clamps and I have not had any issues. They are pretty sturdy and should hold up to normal use without issues. The unit has an easy to understand switch and lights for status. Switch to convert it from 6V to 12V, depending on what you are charging. The status light has simple icons that give a good indication of what the charger is doing.Cons:Not an issue for me but something you should be aware of with this (and likely most chargers of this type in this price range) charger is that it's not going to be super fast at charging a battery that is very low. Most of the time, that's not a big deal as its intended to maintain a battery that is sitting for long periods of time. Just don't assume you can plug this into a dead battery and come back an hour later and have it ready to go. Depending on how empty the battery is and how much power is needed to turn whatever you are powering over, it will likely take longer than that.Overall, well worth the 20 something bucks I spent on it. Not something I can always say with stuff from Amazon these days.

I have had this charger plugged into my 800 Amp deep cycle Marine battery all winter in the Garage. While I understand the colder it gets the more AMPs it may require, even during the Fall this charger never goes higher than 12.6 volts on the battery ( checked with Volt meter).I think this charger is best for smaller 12 Volt batteries, I am going to look for 1 with at least 4 amps. I think 3 would probably be optimal but a smart charger that maintains at a round 1-2 amp and charges at 4 will be better.

Literally plug and play. I purchased a battery for a project car last year and it obviously died over the past months of not working on the car. The battery was completely dead, I was skeptical that this device would bring it back to life. Lo and behold, after a whole night of being plugged in, my car has life! The unit is compact, light and easy to store anywhere compared to my old shoe box sized one that went missing. I would truly recommend this product for the price and how easy and effective it is to use!

After dry run of my brand new lawn tractor for winter storage I forgot to turn off ignition so it completely drained the battery. This charger does not charge totally dead batteries. It's not mentioned in the product details on Amazon. My friend loaned his Deltran Tender Plus 021-028 & it immediately recognized the battery & charged in 10 hours. My friend bought this charger from Costco for $35 but unfortunately item is sold out. Buyers beware B&D charger is not for completely dead batteries! Made in china B&D charger has dented my confidence in the quality of B&D products.

Seeing as I don't use my car a lot I am using this to keep the charge up in my car's battery and it works great. Because it is a trickle charger if your battery is really low it will take some time to charge it fully (couple of days). It usually takes me about 1/2 day to "top it up" and after that it's fine. I got this particular unit as initially I thought I could charge it thru the accessory outlet (cigarette lighter) but you have to turn the ignition switch to on and leave the keys in the car to make it work, not a good idea even in a locked garage (your cars accessory switch may work differently). I just use the plug in cable that came with it instead and leave it hooked up to the battery and because it comes with an end cap it is not exposed, works great.Just remember this is not a full blown battery charger but a "trickle" charger so if you want to keep your vehicle's battery in a good state of charge (especially in the winter) you can't beat this at the price.

So far so good. I received this in very short order and as expected, it is a Black and Decker quality product. I have hooked it up to my 1984 Corvette for it's winter hibernation and it appears to have done an excellent job charging then maintaining the battery. I will post an update on this product after it has been operational for a month or so and again in the Spring of 2018. I have used products similar to this in the past and have always been happy with them, I am sure this product will carry on the tradition.Update: This product worked great for me, left it plugged in all winter and just fired up my car this afternoon without any problems. It let me know when there was a problem with a little red light, that happened a couple times when the clips on the battery were bumped. Another great product by Black & Decker!!!

Great product! I used it to keep my battery fully topped up during the winter from November - April (approx. 6 months). Car fired up right away on the first crank! The cables are a little short for where I put the maintainer (in the garage on a shelf) but just added a short extension to it. Has 3 different options for connection; alligator clips, 12v lighter socket, and the small ring post connectors. I used the alligator clips personally and kept it plugged in the whole time to keep the charge. Also easy to set up - just put it for 12V for car batteries and plug it all in.

I am sufficiently impressed with the B&D battery maintainer that this is the second such unit I have purchased. I have five 12V car batteries for my seasonal vehicles and I check the batteries with my multimeter once every month during the off season. In order to assure that they all remain in good working condition, I have been using a Deltran Battery Tender 800 (worked well for two years until the float/maintenance voltage circuit failed and the unit started overcharging my batteries), a Motomaster Eliminator unit (never did work to my satisfaction and completely died after about a year) and the B&D unit, the first of which has been working beautifully for the past year. This most recent B&D addition to my maintainer inventory seems to be working every bit as well as I expected based on my previous experience. It pumps up my batteries to 13.3V, at which point the float/maintenance circuit switches to monitor mode. Given that this B&D battery maintainer is the least expensive of the three different manufacturers' units and has been performing as well as stated by the manufacturer, I feel justified in saying go for it. I consider this unit to be best of the three and, at the price listed on amazon.ca, a good investment.
