I bought a lot of cold steel tomahawks before and it’s been like half a decade since I bought one so I decided to try out the Norse hawk recently. I got it today on Sunday February 2, 2025 and was expecting to modify the tomahawk as I have done with my other tomahawks from cold steel. However out of the box it actually turned out really good. What amazes me is how straight the hickory handle is! All the tomahawk handles I got before would have a slight curve to it so I have to straighten the handle with a bit of steam as steaming the handle long enough does actually make the wood pliable enough to bend it straight. The only modifications I have to do is ground the eye of the tomahawk to make the friction fit of the tomahawk head more better as sharp edges ruins the handle as well as sharpen the edge. What also surprises me is that the handle is not that badly damaged. I was expecting to carve out the bits of wood that would be shaved off from the rough fitting of the tomahawk head but it didn’t turn out that way at all and the stop pin was not set in so deep and basically left very minimal damage to the handle. Don’t use the stop pin that comes with the tomahawk. The head is meant to be fitted on the handle with friction and using the stop pin causes damage to the handle as the shock from tomahawk use will cause the tomahawk head to move resulting in the stop pin damaging the handle. Overall I am completely satisfied with the tomahawk and I feel like the new owners of cold steel have done something right on some things especially the tomahawk I got. I only got one tomahawk so far after the cold steel buy out but I feel like I would buy more products from the tomahawk line in the future as I feel that my chances of getting a good tomahawk is now greater than before. I really hope this level of quality is standard with the new cold steel company rather than me getting lucky with this one.

Probably overpriced considering its average to low quality. But still a very cool axe *if* you plan to make a project out of it. The head is fitted horribly and will require work on your part, the overall look is plain and will also require work on your part.It is good as a template but not a good product out of the box, considering this it should be less expensive in my opinion. But still, very cool axe

Fantastic project hawk, it came out of the box blunt. Two hours later with my water stones and it's shaving sharp, so, loved it,lots of fun. Also the finish isn't glossy and looks like scale from the blacksmiths forge...love it, it just keeps giving. and giving...this baby even kicks butt as a dedicated carving axe!

Value for price, came semi sharp, as expected, but a sharpening stone and ten minutes later one very sharp edge. The handles grain is almost perfect, off by maybe 10 degrees. Unlike other reviews my handle was not not overly pressed in or Ill fitted. Took the set screw out and tapped the handle on my workbench and the head slid right down. Sanded the finish off the handle and restained it a darker color then used boiled linseed oil to protect it. Gave it a corded leather wrap handle and a paracord shaft protector under the head. The head paint was stripped off and then cold blued, which looks better, IMHO. Threw away the set screw, as it is not needed on a tomahawk, it is supposed to be a friction fit, so you can take the head off easily. Now it is a fully functional camp tool. It works great for clearing small brush from campsite, splitting wood and any other camping chores.

i bought this knowing fully that id be modifying it. its so so quality from the factory. but once you strip the black coating. shorten the handle. do some sharpening, add a nice gun blue, and treat the handle it starts looking pretty nice. a good project tomahawk start.
