Why Bowfishing?
- The sport of bowfishing has been on the rise in the US for a number of years now. Today, bowfishing is one of the fastest growing sports in the US alone, with more people engaging with the exciting pace, fun, adrenaline, and camaraderie that it has become associated with.
- Perhaps the draw to bowfishing is just how much fun it is. This is the reason why it’s become so popular in recent years. It’s an absolute blast.
- You don’t have to be quiet, you can get loads of mates together to enjoy it, and you can turn it into a party. The camaraderie aspect is what makes it a special experience.
What is the best draw weight for bowfishing?
- There isn’t one. No weight is better or worse than any other – what you’re looking for is the best draw weight for you. We set the default pull weight to 40 lbs. Perfectly adequate to get the job done for most fish at a depth of three to four feet. Unless, of course, you’re hunting a Megalodon.
What type of fish can I bowfish?
- Carp, eels, suckers, bigmouth buffalo, perch, catfish, and gar to name a few freshwater options – and derivatives thereof.
Where can I go bowfishing?
- Pretty much anywhere. Lakes, rivers and ponds, bays, beaches, and estuaries.
Please note:
- Always check the state or local regulations where you are before embarking on a bowfishing trip.
- Just remember, you can’t bowfish for everything under the water – certain species are off limits.
- Bowfishers can attract a negative press from regular fisher people for a number of reasons. Be aware that you’re sharing the rivers, lakes, and waterways with others when you’re enjoying the sport.

Bow Fishing Tips And Tricks
- Don’t Go Bow Fishing Not Prepared for Battle: Sharp Tips- Over time your tips will dull. Keep it nice and sharp!
- Don’t be Scared to Try Shore and Boat – River and Lake and Different Areas to Fish: Expand your horizons a bit. Don’t get limited to trying only one area to fish. Don’t think you have to be on a boat to locate the right fishing spots.
- Don’t go Cheap on the Reel – Pay to Play: If you’re just starting off in bow fishing, I don’t blame you for wanting to keep it as cheap as possible. But trust us to give you a perfect and lasting bowfishing experience!
- Practice Makes Perfect – Practice shooting: Don’t ever overestimate the value of practice. Get out and shoot your bowfishing arrows a few times and get a feel for our line and reel. More, you need to learn how the water can play tricks on your sight. Objects are always higher or deeper than they appear.
- Don’t Fight the Fish: When Bow Fishing, it’s almost muscle memory to fight the fish once you have the sphere in it. Don’t do this. Let the fish tire out some before going for the reel in.
- Spend Money on Gear First, then the Boat: A used bow is fine until you find your passion with bow fishing which shouldn’t take long.
- Stalk Your Prey: Take note of the importance of scouting reports and being stealthy. If fishing from shore, scout ahead of your planned trip. The more information you have ahead of time, the higher your success will ultimately be.
- It’s Always Right to Bow Fish at Night: Bow fishing at night is an absolute must try. Make sure to use proper lighting equipment. If you are prepared, nothing can really beat night bow fishing.
- Avoid Windy Days: Windy days can cause all sorts of issues bow fishing for fishes. Aim and accuracy won’t be as precise, and judging angles and shots are just a pain.
