The unit works very well however the foils easily jump off the holder. Handling will cause the foils to drop off and het the bottom. Ok for closed enviornment, not great for hands on type of environment.

I love alternate energy and experimenting so this was a great item to add to my collection. I immediately put it together once it arrived. I had no trouble getting the aluminum foil onto the holders. It can tear easily so be careful and patient here. But it is so sensitive that the foil was attracted to the bottle itself when I was inserting it. My daughter loves to play with this.It is humid right now but in winter this is going to be great fun for the family.

I had to demonstrate the effects of static electricity for the nuclear science merit badge. This kit worked just as described.

The seller spends quite a bit of energy in the description with regard to touting their interest in assisting education but the scope comes without instruction. For those of us who are physics curious but without a lab background, it took some digging to figure out how to get the foil to attach without damaging the leaves. Eisco can get their additional 2 stars if they include some guidance.

This is a basic electroscope, but it's effective at detecting static charges. My only quibble is that the aluminum leaves aren't factory attached, and it takes a steady hand and a pair of tweezers to slip them onto the brackets - the slots are very small and thin. Once assembled, though, it's a great item.
