I bought a crappy china brand ball joint separator off amazon and it snapped instantly on first attempt to separate a ball joint from a control arm. I then ordered this gear wrench ball joint separator and ended up beating it like crazy with a sledge hammer to get it in and in hopes to break free a very stubborn ball joint and surprisingly it held up no problem. Was able to get it free and very few signs of even being used. Very high quality for the price.

Worked well on removing tied rods on my 1997 BMW 528i. I did not have to abuse it this time but it looks like it can take some beating. I recommend

Je l'ai déjà utiliser quelque fois. J'avais peur que pour le prix ce soit cheap et qu'il casse à la première utilisation, mais jusqu'à maintenant fait très bien la job pour les amateur de DIY (Do It Yourself)

I abused it so much by trying to get the stubborn control arm ball joint out and I succeeded thanks to this tool. It didn’t break on me, it never cracked from me hammering the crap out of it or anything went wrong with the tool - it works really well.

Bought this one to do the job another competitor's tool could not handle the job and broke off. The previous tools was a few years old and did the job until recently. This tool did the work and I would say effortlessly, but the sound the PS Cylinder made when it broke loose did not sound effortlessly. This one deserve a notch for save the day.

Purchased very inexpensively during a price dip (twenty something bucks). Excellent value for the money, and would not do the job again without it. I have used this several times on the tie rod of a BMW E46 330xi, which was otherwise extremely difficult to separate from the control arm. Use as described by others (grease up well, load up the joint, hit the arm with a hammer to shock joint loose). Without this tool you end up damaging the hex at the top of the threads and/or the threads themselves and/or the nut of the ball joint making re-use and future separations even more difficult. I will never do this work again without this kind of tool, unless I expect to use a pickle fork (and/or BFH) and throw away the ball joint afterwards. If purchasing again, I would get a 5-in-1 set set instead for double the price, mainly to get this tool and an Outer Tie Rod Remover (such as Gearwrench 3533, or OTC 7503, or Performance Tool W83021, etc.). Kit is GearWrench 41690, or comparable: Performance Tool W89303, or OTC 6295 Front End Service Set, etc.

This is overall a very poorly made tool. I was removing the spindle/knuckle from a 1993 Honda Del Sol for a CV axle/bearing job. Nothing too exciting, I had three ball joints i needed to pop out, the lower ball joint, an upper one which connects to the suspension fork and one for the steering tie rod. This managed to not remove a single one of them. In fact it did so poorly that the tool itself warped/broke during use: 1) the long part which directs the force from the screw to the part being pushed through bent, 2) the screw which is turned to apply the force stripped at the tip where it made contact with the levering component and 3) the screw actually expanded widthwise from the compression. I understand that wasn't the clearest but to summarize, every single metal used in this component is poor and inadequate. Everything that wasn't suppose to warp, warped. And here's the background on my Del Sol: It's old. I needed a ball joint separator because nothing was coming out easily. Which is the reason why you would get this tool. If you had easily removable ball joints that can come out with the light tap of a hammer than you wouldn't need a separator. But this doesn't seem to be able to handle anything more than a light tap of a hammer degree of force. So what is the purpose of this? It can't deliver on the heavy duty role of removing more stuck ball joints without damaging itself. So why even consider this. Anyways, the point is, stay away.So in the meantime, I'd recommend anyone looking for a ball joint separator to go onto RockAuto or here on Amazon and find the Performance Tools one. You'll find that it looks exactly the same. But lo and behold, I received that one and within 15min I popped all three ball joints off with absolute ease. And surprisingly the tool remained sturdy and didn't warp. When I purchased my Performance Tools one from RockAuto, it was exactly the same price as this unit. So just stay away from this. (Note/Bonus: As far as I can tell, this one doesn't have a warranty while the Performance Tools one carries a lifetime warranty.)

Used it for tie rods, ball joints, upper control arms, lower control arms, it makes seperating a ball joint (controll arm or tie rod whatever type of joint) pretty ok. I don't think these are impact rated but i didn't care at all so i gave it the beans with my 1/2 milwaukee midtorque and the little pin that holds both pieces together snapped. Probably just gonna chuck a bolt in it and nut i don't care it was cheap and got the job done. It still works, the pin is just long enough to still engage it so i will use it. It's just meant to put pressure on the joint then give it a few hits where the joint goes into the knuckle or wherever and it should just fly right out. I was lazy and the tool broke, if you care use hand tools.
