About the Cabasa
The Cabasa is a classic Latin-percussion instrument. Originally a natural seed-covered, gourd-based instrument from Africa, the modern Cabasa was invented by Martin Cohen of Latin Percussion. A textured circular metal face covered with a steel bead 'net' that can be held using a convenient handle - the Cabasa is capable of creating intricate rhythmic patterns, by rotating the instrument with one hand while the other hand guides the steel bead net around the body of the instrument, or simply by shaking or tapping the body with your fingers.
To play the Cabasa, grip the cabasa by its soft-grip handle. With the other hand, cup the frame with the metal beads in your palm. Rotate the handle to a rhythm to create a rich sound.
