I bought this for my constantly jumping around 5 yr old.I think its a little small for him to use as a traditional tumbling wedge however he has used it a bunch of different ways:- standing it upright then sitting on top of it like a horse- jumping on it from various furniture-running then jumping onto to slide- lying on it like a pillow- standing it upright then attacking it-running up it and jumping offI will say this is NOT soft. It's actually quite hard and when I first took it out of the box I was a little concerned it was too hard for tumbling. I have since decided its for the best considering the beating it goes through especially getting jumped on--better it to be too hard then too soft and roll an ankle.

My girls started gymnastics earlier this year and they love it so far. Their classes are only an hour long once a week though so I felt like it would be better to get something so they could also practice at home. It was definitely a better option than them rolling down our three steps into the living room even though time after time they’ve been told to stop. So far they really like it. It’s a little harder than I would have guessed, but it works great! I was hesitant about the purchase, but it really turned out great.

Our 6 year old boy just started gymnastics a month ago. He's been able to practice some of his tumbling, especially forward and backwards rolls. This is the perfect size for him and he is 47". It's not his gymnastic center quality mat, but it's perfect for in the home practicing a few hours per week.
