The threaded rods I received were all bent. They don’t roll evenly on a flat surface, in fact, they hardly roll at all. I don’t need a perfectly straight rod for what I’m doing, but I can’t help but notice the bends in the rods. The rods just came plainly packaged and a yellow envelope, which does nothing to keep them straight during shipping or really protect them at all except from dirt or dust. If you need threads for a machine or any application that relies on straightness for indexing or position control, stay away from these. 2 stars.

I know it's nitpicky but it's worth knocking it down one star. I hate it when the ends aren't chamfered correctly. You can chase it with a bolt and it's fine but you could also end up cross starting which is no good. You can use these directly out of the bag they are not oiled or covered in preservative grease, which I really like. These came as a dry pack and apart from slightly hinky chamfering on the ends, these are ready to go.

I'm of an age and with a hobby that makes me enthuse about threaded rod. I feel like my granddad! These are all perfectly straight and well formed, with quite a brilliant shine. Testing with a magnet backs up that they're stainless steel. All four rods are slightly over 400mm - two are 403mm and two 404mm - so if you need bang-on 400mm you'll need to do a little bit of grinding. Fortunately for me, the item they're going in is full of slightly-off dimensions thanks to cutting aluminium extrusions with a junior hacksaw, using my lap and a sweaty hand as a vice, so leeway is built in as a necessity...Having bought threaded rod in the past (quite some time ago now) I checked the price against previous purchases for similar items - £10 for the four isn't as cheap as my last purchase, but these are stainless as opposed to zinc-plated steel. As such, they get a thumbs up from me.

Threaded rods are godsends for DIY-ers: to begin with, they will help you whenever you don’t have a bolt long enough for what you’re doing – just cut to the measure and add a nut; maybe a drop of Loctite to keep it in place. It can also be used as an endless screw, and/or in more intricate contraptions – say, when you want to precisely adjust the height or length, or move a part forward or back.If you need a threaded rod like these ones – stainless steel, metric, small diameter – you can’t just walk into your local hardware depot. For four rods of these specs and this length, the price is very reasonable. M4 is the thread used for most magnetic hook bases, should your project involve one of those. And just when I wanted to give it five stars and go about devising a doohickey in which I could use it, I spotted that the first one I grabbed had some flaws in the thread at one end (picture). No big deal, I thought – if you cut threaded rods, you must also have dies to fix threads where you cut them. I fixed the rod – but it took me longer than I had expected. I might have cut and discarded the damaged part – anyway, you generally don’t use the entire thread rod.The other three rods were without any defects.
