This is a cute birdhouse, but it is small. You will have to put the string through the holes and add/glue the perch. I'm hoping it will attract a hummingbird this spring.

We have a lot of wren's making nests near our house and last year they made their nest in our mailbox which was hung on the wall of the house right outside our front door, so not the best place or the safest. I am hoping that if a hummingbird doesn't find use of it maybe a little wren will. It looks very safe for a small bird that will keep away bigger birds and squirrels and keep them safe from pecking beaks or probing paws.It will also look very nice hung from a tree or somewhere without spoiling the natural surroundings.

This little hummingbird house will likely be occupied by a nut hatch, pygmy nut hatch as well as an actual hummingbird. I don't think a hummingbird will go inside if it can't get turned around and come out. I think some hummingbirds in my yard wouldn't be able to turn around inside with their long beak. I will check it frequently. It is the diameter of a 1/2 cup measuring cup but nicely made aside from too much ventilation in my opinion. I will seal many of the gaps between the boards but not all. I will leave a few at the bottom for drainage and two at the top and one on each side. I will seal the rest. It is a house I fully expect a neighboring hummingbird to occupy since it's at our kitchen window everyday using our feeder and spends the day in a nearby bush then leaves at night to cross the street and go behind a neighbor's house. This might shorten their commute nicely! It has a clever swing door at the rear should it ever need to be cleaned out. The opening is small enough to only allow inhabitants inside and keep larger predator birds out. It is long enough for a bird inside to remain safe from any potential predator bird trying to peck through the opening. It is sturdy enough to do the job and should last several years if kept out of direct weather. I wish it could have been painted further or coated with a sealant but that would probably deter a small bird from using it. For the price it is in my opinion worth it. More than a decoration I think this is a functional future home for our smallest visitors.I am happy with this one and I am optimistic that if I place it in the right location it will find use.
