Like others, I have vintage incandescent christmas-tree lights. Three strings of 25 C9 lights, to be exact. It adds up to about 525 watts, if they're all on full brightness. Well-- between the heat they produce and the electricity used, I wanted to be able to dim them some of the time. Many incandescent dimmers do not handle that level of wattage but this one does! Also, the slider has a little resistance -- a good thing, it lets you take your light smoothly just to the lighting level you want it at. (And the cat walking over it, bumping the slider, is not gonna suddenly make you feel like you're looking directly into the sun.).I will say, don't exceed the wattage. Previously I had one long string of lights with 150 bulbs-- that was juuuuust a bit too much and the dimmer started to smell hot. But: If you use it within its intended range, it's a great dimmer to have around.

Bought this for my Christmas tree which uses 300 pre strung 1 watt incandescent bulbs. Works great and is easy to hook up and use. Love being able to lower the light and color of my clear lights and save some money on my electric bill.

I have been using the dimmer for over two years. I use it on a kettle to limit the amperage. I have used it on different settings based on the current that is being used by other appliances. I use it every day. High current usage or low current usage it works well. Current limit 1000 watts. Comes with a spare fuse - never had to change the fuse. As of August 2023 it is still going strong.

Used indoors for 500W Christmas tree light strings that was built into the tree an way too bright (incandescent). I had tried a different brand that was rated for 600w but overheated right away and went into heat shutdown mode. This one handles the wattage great and gets slightly warm but not hot at all. It has a heavy duty cord that is a little bulky but can certainly handle the power load. Great unit. DEFINITELY NOT SUITABLE FOR OUTDOOR USE as the sliding switch is not sealed and water will certainly get in and short it out.

I love the warm look of incandescent Christmas lights, and while LED lights have definitely improved, in my opinion, nothing beats the soft warm glow that incandescent lights provide -- especially for Christmas lights. We had a very nice Christmas tree that had a lot of lights, but after about 10 years the lights started burning out. I diligently replaced them whenever I saw some burned out, but every season it would get worse and worse. I would replace lights by the dozen. It got so bad that every year I'd replace 100 or more! Sometimes several branches at a time would burn out! After some research, I learned that replacement bulbs may be slightly different wattage than what was originally on the tree so they would burn brighter / hotter and burn out faster. And when one burns out it would transfer the voltage to the other lights in the series causing them to burn brighter / hotter and will burn out faster causing a chain reaction. Before you know it the whole circuit of lights is burned out, and they all would need to be replaced. So I decided to hook the tree up to a dimmer. I first tested the tree to see how much wattage it was using, and to my surprise it was using more than what a standard light dimmer recommends (350 watts). I searched for a dimmer that could handle a larger load, and found this product on Amazon. I purchased the product three years ago, and every year since it has saved our Christmas tree! I set the dimmer to about 3/4 brightness and it's perfect for that warm glow. Now instead of replacing 100+ bulbs a year, I replace maybe a dozen.I don't notice any buzzing or humming, like I've heard on other dimmers. The construction seems a like it could be better, but it's perfect for my use for one month out of the year. I also have this dimmer plugged into a TP-Link remote plug so I can turn the tree on and off though a scheduling app. No problems! The dimmer is not made for outdoor use, and I wouldn't trust it for that application. If you have a large incandescent or halogen load and you're looking for a dimmer, then look no further!

Searched high and low for a three prong dimmer for our outdoor patio lights that are too bright on their own. Found this unit on Amazon and it is exactly what we needed. Not waterproof, so be careful about exposing to rain.

This is a product not readily found in Canada and finding it on Amazon.ca was great and at a great price. It works well, quiet with smooth transitions, no colour shift in temperature as you dim up or down. Very well built and durable.
