I bought this set a year ago to replace my old Gatco set as I'd worn down the stones and the adhesive failed between the fine stone and the holder. It's the same type of sharpening system using rod guides. I'm very disappointed in the poor quality of this Lansky system. The supplied oil was rancid so the whole kit smells like rotten vegetable oil, the stones are impregnated with the stench. I have normal size man hands (medium or large gloves), these tiny stones and holders are easy to roll and are difficult to grasp between finger tips. The stones of my previous set are more than twice as wide, much more stable and easier to grasp. Paying extra for the pedestal was rather disappointing, it should be included with the kit as it should be seen as a necessary component of the system. The glue had failed on the serrated sharpener before it even arrived. The case is warped and won't close correctly. The amount of slop and the poor quality of the clamping system make it difficult to sharpen any knife with a blade length over 3". I'm very disappointed in this product, I've been using it for a year now and am shopping around for a decent quality replacement at a higher price point, since this level of entry is absolute junk.

Cheap metal, sloppy fitting. 17' doesn't work as set screw in way. Waste of money

This is the best value for money sharpener out there. Not stupidly expensive but not cheap. Stones are good quality and last a long time. The angle guide is a proven design Lansky invented like 35 years ago. Still one of the best. Yes the holder digs into your hand so wear cut resistant gloves when sharpening. All things considered for the money these are good performing accurate sharpeners. I trust my really good knives to these. If you care for your knives and want repeatable sharpening angles, long life stones and scary sharp knives buy Lansky.

Awesome sharpener! Angle control, stones are great, and the clamps hold the knive firmly. Gotta watch out not to put too much weight on the strokes, if you dont pay attention it is easy to land your hand on the blade. I find it easy to work the bevels, and maintain symmetry within both sides. So far amazing.

This system works for the majority of knives that you own.Follow the instructions and be aware that knife sharpening is a learned art,you probably won't be using your first sharpened knife to shave with. This sharpening set is high quality, and after enough practice you will get a professional result.

Shall I start with a good ar the bad news, heh? Well, the good news is it works and I have put a hair-popping, crazy sharp edge on whatever I wanted. The coarse stone is also suitable for reprofiling should you choose or need to do so.Nooow, the bad news is it is not entirely thought through a design with the metal lasp simply not working with blades not having a flat surface to attach to. I desperately calls for some rubber inlays (cut off fingers from a rubber glove or even some wet paper does the trick) as otherwise no matter how hard to tighten the clasp and how much you pay attention it will move around changing angles. Same goes for a poor design of the rods that you attach to the stones as well as for the holes in the clasp they go into, which are clearly too large and leave considerable play (and - again - affect the angle). So however simple they try to picture it in the instruction vids, it will take some practice and quite some patience to get it right. But once you do..... You'd better watch your fingers ;)
