Less-practical than track lighting, once you locate/install it, there it is.like:- quality material, very nicely finished- looks good- zoom mechanism screams "fancy"- excellent light spectrum- dimmabledislike:- not so much an item-specific point, but... directional ceiling spots are rare for a reason. What if you rearrange your art?- kinda surprisingly big, therefore conspicuous.value: This, because of the nature of the item, is largely subjective. If a not-inconspicuous, permanent-install spotlight is what you need, this is a fine choice. Otherwise...consider a track.in sum: Use-case-specific recommend.

This is a great design, and the ideal way to throw light where it's needed. I wonder why there aren't more lights like this one? As just an ordinary light, it's good. Everything is metal, and nicely finished. The silver has a brushed matte surface, which helps to make it not stand out. Between the swivel and the pivot, the light can be oriented just about anywhere. For me, this was perfect, because I wasn't sure how far away to place the light. The light output is great, more that my other 25 watt spot. In fact, I'm thinking to put it on a dimmer. Also, the light has a nice, soft temperature, somewhere around 2700-3000k, which seems perfect to highlight some art on the wall. The big advantage that this light has is the zoom. Again, this has been perfect in my situation, because I wasn't sure how wide the spot would be. I wanted something that would spotlight just the art, without washing over the whole wall. With this light, the zoom let me place the light where it was less visible, yet still be able to throw more than enough light just on the artwork. Roughly speaking, the light is about 15 feet from the art, and the zoom will narrow down to about 4 feet in diameter or zoom out to around 15 feet. Having this kind of zoom, has made me start thinking of other places to use it; places that seemed impossible without doing some major rewiring.

Let me get this off my chest first: I think $79.99 (current price) is pretty steep for this item...there are similar options for less. That said, it's an excellent quality light:-- sturdy metal construction-- high quality fit and finish-- "art gallery" style design-- high CRI for excellent color rendering-- good zoom range-- includes mounting plate, screws, wire nuts and so onEasy 5 stars for quality, design, and function, but if I needed another one I might shop for a better price.

This requires a backbox to mount to, and is not intened to be used as a standalone, corded fixture. The metal/fixture/machining quality is ok, but not great...but does look nice enough from a distance. It's certainly weighty enough, and works well with my lutron dimmers, so really not much to complain about.I DO like it's (limited, but useful) zoomability, esp for focusing light on specific areas - not a usual feature.Easy to recommend this unless you are looking for exquisite metal/ quality....but will pay a good deal more for that, and might not get any better quality lighting.Recommended.
