5 inch backing plates are great for 5 - 6 inch polishing pads for working on the body panels. However, for working on headlights, 3 inches is better. So this 3inch backing plates is a must have for me. And it works well with my PC7424XP dual action polisher. The backing plate feels premium. Does not feel like it's cheap plastic which may break ina few months. I believe that this should last for a good length of time under normal use. I wouldn't hesitate to order this item again in the future when I need to.

For those of you who love a high gloss, wet look finish on your car, you probably know that the key is not a special product, but rather a good polish. DA polishers are the best and safest way to do this and the speed and satisfaction from using a 6 inch polishing pad on a mostly flat panel is the most expeditious way to get impressive results.Unfortunately, there are many curves, corners, and other tight places that a 6 inch pad cannot touch. This 3 inch backing plate is designed to be used with 3 inch pads for course, and unlike other backing plates of the same size, this one is specifically designed to be used with a DA polisher. Others I have used are meant to be used with a drill.There are multiple reasons why this is a bad idea. First, without the random rotation of a DA polisher you risk overheating and ruining the finish. Second, cordless drills are not as fast or powerful as a DA polisher. This backing plate is designed precisely for that and even is vented to prevent overheating. In my testing this worked perfectly with 2 different polishers and was more effective than my drill mounted backing plates. I’m glad I found it.If youre serious about keeping your car looking best, it starts with a good polish and this is the right tool for the smaller areas.

Polishing produces heat and eventually breaks down the backing plates. This one specially mentions 12000 rpm and high speed. High speed pad is more than this polisher needed but you can see my other had deteriorated from the heat and age. This pad should last a good long while the material and construction looks good. Always have good luck with max shine products, good value. Now i need some for my rotary polishers....

I installed this 3" pad on my 5" DA buffer, which was easy to do. I purchased the 3.5" SPTA polishing pads and used the medium and fine grades for the small areas on one car. The backing plate held up. It was like getting a whole new buffer -- now I can use both 3" and 5" backing plates on my DA. I don't know how long the back plate will last, but the price makes even one car worth the purhase.
