Wrote on it with a sharpie and there was a slight bleed with the wood grain, but this was not noticable in the pictures. A finer tip pen may be better to use.

I bought this sign as a birth announcement for my 4th baby. It is a decent size (especially for pictures) and the color is exactly what is pictured. The style of the writing is exactly what I was looking for and the quality of the sign is good. I definitely feel as if it was money well spent.
