  • [2 Types of Alloy Probes]: The fruit hardness tester is equipped with two different types of test probes (8mm & 11mm) with measuring ranges of 1-24kg/cm²(x10^5 pa); 0.5-12kg/cm²(x10^5 pa). You can use these to measure fruits of different hardnesses
  • [Peak Memory]: The follower needle of the fruit firmness penetrometer will stay at the peak value at the end of the measurement, which is good for quick reading. At the same time, the needle can point to two measurement units: kg/cm^2 and pa.
  • [Portability]: A portable carrying case comes along with the fruit hardness meter for storage and carrying. With its small size and light weight, the sclerometer can follow you anywhere.
  • [Measuring Method]: Hold the fruit penetrometer by hand to make the hardness tester perpendicular to the surface of the fruit to be tested, and press the indenter into the fruit evenly.
  • [Widely Used]: This fruit hardness tester can be used in a variety of occasions, including seed cultivation, fruit import and export transportation, fruit research and so on.

Product Description

  • Fruit hardness tester: used to measure the hardness of apples, pears, watermelons, bananas and other fruits, to determine the maturity of fruits, to cultivate good varieties, picking time, processing time, harvest storage, export transportation and other reasonable control of time.
  • It is suitable for fruit research departments, fruit farms, fruit companies, universities and other units.
  • The instrument is small in size, light in weight, intuitive in numerical display and easy to carry. It is suitable for fruit inspection in various fruit venues.
  • It can also be assembled on a special test stand, which can improve the accuracy of testing and is suitable for professional testing departments.
1

Fruit firmness (P) refers to the ratio of fruit unit area (S) to the pressure (N) of the pressure spring under test.

P=N/S

P一Fruit hardness (10^5 Pa or kg/cm²)

N一Force exerted by a force-measuring spring on the fruit surface(N or kg)

S一 Fruit area of thrust surface (cm²)

Q

  • GY-1 mainly tests hard fruit, such as apple and pear.
  • GY-2 mainly tests soft fruit, such as strawberry.
  • Soft and hard fruit both can be measured with GY-3

Hardness of some common fruits:

  • Apple:8.0~9.2 kg/cm²
  • Plum: 3.4~4.2 kg/cm²
  • Peach: 10.0~13.5kg/cm²
  • Pear:7.5~7.7kg/cm²
  • Kiwifruit: 8.2kg/cm²
  • Grape: 0.2~1.3kg/cm²
  • Strawberry: 0.55~0.68kg/cm²

Using Steps:

  • Before measurement: Turn the dial to align the drive pointer with the first calibration line of the dial (GY-1 is calibration line 2, GY-2 and GY-3 is calibration line 0.5); Peel the fruit about 1 cm² .
  • Measurement: Hold the hardness tester in hand, make the hardness tester perpendicular to the surface of the fruit under test, press the test head into the fruit evenly, then drive the pointer to start driving the indicator to rotate, When the test head stops at the scale line (10mm), the reading indicated by the indicator is the hardness of the fruit, and the average value is taken three times.
  • After measurement: Rotate the knob to reset the pointer to the initial calibration line.

Pointer Dial

  • Double needle design, peak memory
  • Pointer Dual Units Display,
  • 1kg=10N, In measurement, the default force area of kilograms and megapas is 1 square centimeter.
  • Then the pressure of 1 kilogram at 1 square centimeter is: 10N/1cm²=10N/10^(-4)m²=10^5 Pa

Alloy Probe

  • The probe can be disassembled, the test head calibration line can be measured more accurately.

Fastening Button

  • Turn right to lock dial

Whether your a professional or someone who just wants to test fruit firmness to evaluate when it's perfectly mature to consume or when it would be the perfect time to harvest this little instrument is great. It's very accurate and does exactly what is says, instructions are easy to follow and read, very pleased with it overall.

We already have a digital hardness tester but we’re interested in seeing how accurate an analogue one would be.The main use we have for these is tied to scientific research, we work in the refrigeration industry and one of the things we do is look at how the different fruit storage technology’s prolong a frites life span, so these types of equipment support our research immensely. The hardness tester it’s very simple to use and produces reliable accurate results (with a small margin of error but acceptable and within tolerance). The items all come in a handy sized storage box which is easy to pop in the lab cupboard.Great product and very useful.

This arrived in very good outer packaging and extremely high protection within the outer cardboard. The plastic case has foam inside which holds the instrument and the two attachments in place. The instruments looks of very high quality, the two attachments have screw fixings. You are able to test the ripeness of soft fruit with one attachment and hard fruits like apples, pears etc with the other attachments. You simply need to cut away the skin on your hard fruit and insert the tester and it will tell you whether the fruit is mature enough to harvest.I will be using this at harvest time to ensure my apples are adequate to harvest for cider making.Good quality, would recommend.
