Another great collection of songs from Joe Bonamassa. I am constantly amazed that he has the ability to sound completely different from song to song and each one is carefully crafted and executed.When I hear him on Pandora sometime I have to check who the artist is only to find out it's Joe with a "different face on".I am 75 and was fortunate to spend my teens, 20s, and 30s in Chicago in the 1960s, the 1970s, and the 1980s. So I was fortunate to see Clapton, Beck, Page, Hendrix, Townsend, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Brian May, and countless other great guitarists on their way up. When gather with other music freaks of various ages, I usually ask "Name 5 GREAT, not VERY GOOD, guitarists under 50 years old. Nobody has gotten past 5 but Joe Bonamassa is always in the handful.Thankfully he is very prolific. Check the list of CDs, BlueRays, and DVDs, available on AMAZON! The Beatles top that chart with 13 albums in 4 &1/2 years (I think I have that correct). I Believe Joe Bonamassa has something like 40 disks out between studio disks, live Disks, and videos of live performances. AMAZON probably has them all and all have 4+ reviews! This is another excellent Bonamassa CD that shows his talent, creativity, and his willingness to do the work to make the best he can do which is another classic.

This review is not about the music. It is about the description of the condition of the warehouse item. It was listed as in "good" condition. However upon receiving the item, the cd was inside an A1 cardboard envelope, and that was inside an A3 envelope. Upon opening the A1 envelope, bits of the cd case fell out. The edge and top right hand corner of the case was smashed, as if it had been stood upon. The cd case liner edge was also damaged. I would describe the item condition as only "acceptable" at best. I believe that the cd has been dropped or trodden on whilst being processed. Luckily I had a spare cd case and was able to transfer the disc, booklet and liner successfully.I had expected the item in "good" condition to have only minor superficial cosmetic damage. It was bad enough to require additional enveloping to keep the bits of case in. Beware misleading descriptions.BTW music is excellent.12.07.21 update.Customer service rep was very good and applied a promotional credit to compensate for my trouble. All good now.

Ikonisch nicht nur, weil es im legendären Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN, aufgenommen wurde, sondern angesichts all dessen, was Joe Bonamassa für seine Fans auf sich genommen hat. Dieses Album zeigt die Bemühungen, alle Hürden zu überwinden, nicht nur die durch die Covid-Pandemie auferlegten, sondern auch einen gebrochenen Knöchel des Hauptschlagzeugers der Bonamassa-Band, Anton Fig (war ja mal mit Ace Frehley von Kiss in der Solo-Band), gerade als die Band sich auf die Tour vorbereitete. Dazu hat die Veranstaltung dazu beigetragen, über 500.000 US-Dollar für Bonamassas Fueling Musicians-Programm zu sammeln, das von seiner gemeinnützigen Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation (KTBA) präsentiert wird. Ich bin schier überwältigt und erschlagen, wie Bonamassa das umgesetzt hat. Zuschauer waren ja nicht möglich. Also was macht man? Man stellt im Saal 1.700 Pappgesichter auf und tut so, als ob der Saal ausverkauft gewesen wäre.„Now Serving: Royal Teal Live From the Ryman“ wurde noch vor der Veröffentlichung von JB‘s 24.ter #1 Platte in den Billboard Blues-Charts, ROYAL TEA, im September 2020 aufgenommen. Neun der zum Zeitpunkt des Konzertes noch unveröffentlichten Songs von ROYAL TEA sind auf diesem „Live“-Album zu finden (es ist Live, nur ohne Zuschauer) sowie drei Songs seines 20-jährigen Jubiläumsalbums A NEW DAY NOW. Beide Alben habe ich bereits zum Erscheinungstermin rezensiert, so dass es wenig Sinn macht, hier nochmal auf die Songs einzugehen. Die Musik ist so oder so über jeglichen Zweifel erhaben. Was aber dazu kommt ist dieser spezielle Gedanke von Bonamassa, seinen Fans was Besonderes zu bieten und obendrein noch Geld für seine Stiftung zu sammeln. Und das hat er so dermaßen geil gemacht, dass es mich auch total emotional berührt. Alleine das Vorwort im Booklet spricht Bände, erzeugt Gänsehaut und rührt mich zu Tränen. Werde wohl auf meine alten Tage noch richtig sentimental. Ich gebe das Vorwort im englischen Original wieder, weil ich das nicht perfekt auf Deutsch übersetzen kann.„Our Band has had the honor of playing there now 8½ Times over the past 10 years. The audience is always alive and electric, hanging on every word and phrase. It feels like the greatest, most intimate gig you will ever do but there are 2.300 people sharing this joy and musical journey. I love the place as it is a national treasure and selfishly close to my home. Here’s where I get to the ½ part. We missed you. As great as it is to be on that stage in any capacity, YOU the fans make it special. You are a part of the show and a big part of it. As this show was being filmed live, almost 100.000 eyes wer on us in various forms around the world in front of the TV’s and computers alike. But you were not in the room with us. We played as good as we tried in front of those 1.700 cardboarded cutouts of your faces and tried to imagine you there. For split seconds I would catch a glimpse oft he room and it almost felt normal. Then the song would end and there would be dead silence. Only the footsteps of our Crew could be heard. Sincerely“.WOW, da war ich erstmal sprachlos und kämpfte mit den Tränen der Rührung. Ich nehme Bonamassa jedes einzelne Wort ab. Er schreibt, dass die Fans fehlen die die magischen Momente ausmachen. Dabei hat es er selbst geschafft ohne Fans ebenfalls eine Magie zu erzeugen und zu transportieren. Selten hat mich ein Album emotional so sehr berührt wie dieses. Natürlich hängt das mit der Pandemie zusammen. Bonamassa (und auch andere Künstler) zeigt/(zeigen), wie man auch in der Pandemie die Leute „Live“ erreichen und begeistern kann. Dafür genießt er bei mir einen noch höheren Respekt als ohnehin schon.Bei Konzerten liebe ich Spektakel, weswegen ich von Bonamassa nur einen Konzertfilm habe (Acoustic 2017). Mir ist das ohne Effekte, Pyros und Spektakel zu langweilig. Diesmal hatte ich mir die DVD geholt, weil die Geschichte dazu pandemiebedingt außergewöhnlich ist. Zum Glück habe ich das gemacht. Gestern Abend habe ich mir das bei gedimmten Licht und um ins Wochenende relaxt zu starten angeschaut. Normal schreibe ich freitags bis Mitternacht die Rezis zu Neuerscheinungen. Nach einem ereignisreichen und stressigen Tag wollte ich einfach nur Musik hören und da bot sich der neue Konzertfilm an. Von Beginn an hat mich das Konzert gefesselt. Die Musik liebe ich sowieso und die ist superb. Diesmal war das magische das Ambiente. Das Konzert wurde aufgezogen, als ob reelle Zuschauer dabei gewesen wären. Mit Leinwand und einer Lichtshow. Sogar ein Tee-Service fand den Weg auf die Bühne. Das zeigt, wie detailliert und ernst Bonamassa das Konzert angegangen ist.Die Musiker sind jetzt alle nicht die Bewegungsweltmeister. Joe, der Mundharmonikaspieler (Jimmy Hall) und die beiden grandiosen Background-Sängerinnen, Danielle DeAndreas und Jade MacRae (mit ihren Mini-Choreos) bewegen sich aber so, als ob Publikum da wäre. Der Keyboarder (Reese Wynans) und der Drummer (Greg Morrow) erinnern mich an Jon Lord (R.I.P.) und Ian Pace. Der Bassist (Michael Rhodes ) und der Rhythmus Gitarrist (Rob McNelly) sind etwas dezent im Hintergrund.Die DVD bietet keine Extras. Das Intro ist im Konzertfilm eingebettet und zeigt zu Beginn eine kurze Entstehungsgeschichte zu ROYAL TEA und dem Konzert. Alleine das Intro hatte mich schon emotional erschlagen. Bonamassa sagt darin „2020 was a hell of a year“. Da hat er wohl noch nicht ahnen können (wie wir alle), dass 2021 nicht besser wird. Er spricht auch von einem Fluch, der die Aufnahmen zu ROYAL TEA zu begleiten schien es aber ihnen gelang, trotzdem ein ordentliches Album hinzulegen (o ja, mehr als ordentlich). Um etwas Live-Atmosphäre zu erzeugen wurden zwischen den Songs Publikum-Jubel von vielen Konzertfilmen (auch visuell) dazu geschnitten. Die ist auch als Dank an die Fans zu verstehen. Zumindest sehe ich das so.Bonamassa hält an seiner Tradition fest, immer innovativ zu sein und neue Formate in seine Veröffentlichungen zu bringen. „Now Serving: Royal Teal Live From the Ryman“ ist ein mehr als erfolgreicher Versuch, verschiedene Dinge zu tun, sich von den meisten Mainstream-Optionen abzuheben und dem Publikum auch und vor allem in dieser Pandemiezeit was zu bieten.Auf der Homepage von Bonamassa kann man für 44 USD auch eine handsignierte CD bekommen. Vielleicht hole ich mir die handsignierte CD noch um diesen phantastische Album noch eins draufzusetzen.Ekstase, Begeisterung, Magie und Rührung Ende.

Quelques mois après nous avoir offert le très bon Royal Tea, Bonamassa nous en sert sa version live et elle est gouleyante! On le sait depuis toutes ces années, Joe aime enregistrer ses concerts dans des lieux mythiques (Royal Albert Hall, Opéra de Sidney...) et celui-ci ne fait pas exception, puisqu'on le retrouve avec son groupe au Ryman Auditorium de Nashville, un des coeurs de la musique country puisque c'était de cette salle qu'a été retransmis pendant des décennies le Grand Ole Opry. Le répertoire est simplement mais intelligemment construit puisqu'il comprend 9 des 10 titres de Royal Tea (il manque juste Savannah) et pour finir 3 titres de son 1er album dont on a fêté les 20 ans l'année dernière avec une édition anniversaire, A new day yesterday. Une boucle qui irait du présent au passé le plus ancien en somme! Joe joue avec une technique irréprochable mais aussi beaucoup de feeling et de groove. Les morceaux sont envoyés pieds au plancher: la reprise de Cradle Rock est très pêchue! Le spectacle s'achève sur A new day yesterday-Starship Trooper- Wurm, quelle belle surprise d'avoir repris ces titres de Yes!!! Son blues est ouvert à toutes les influences (hard, progressif, pop...) et c'est ce qui fait la richesse de sa musique. Ces chansons prennent une nouvelle dimension sur scène avec d'excellents musiciens (dont Reese Wymans à l'orgue qui a fait partie du Double Trouble de Stevie Ray Vaughan), on sent le plaisir que Joe a de retrouver la scène même sans public dans une période de pandémie longue et compliquée. Juste jouer en direct en s'éclatant avec ses musiciens et ses fans qui ont pu suivre ce concert grâce à Internet. J'ai adoré cet album live: il complète bien sa discographie live officielle, déjà très fournie et sa carrière se poursuit à un rythme d'enfer! Vivement la suite!
