These slides are ok. They're not great. Out of the hundreds of onion cells on the slide I was able to find 3 cells in metaphase. None in Anaphase or Telophase.

In getting people (kids) interested in biology, having access to slides showing what our eyes can't see is invaluable. These are 5 slides that 'trace' the progression/growth at a microscopic perspective of an onion root tip. While it is interesting to have a range of subjects, being able to trace something as basic as a root tip as it develops has a lot to be explored.Slides were well labeled and prepared. The edges were 'safe' as long as reasonable care is exercised. All of this amounts to 5 stars in my rating.

They came packed fairly well. The plastic case has some strips of thin foam in the lid to hold the slides nicely. And there was one strip of foam in between some slides which I felt was odd. It should have either not needed it or needed a strip between each slide, not just one. I also find it odd that the slides are just barely held by the ridges in the case. I hope that is visible in the picture.I used a 4x, 10x, and 40x objective combined with a 10x and a 20x eyepiece to take some sample pictures. They look quite good and appear properly stained. I am a bit disappointed there’s no labeling for the stages though. Since I’m new to microscopy it would have been nice to view them in order without having to guess.

We had some prepared slides already that had been used for decades. I got these to see if newer techniques or stains were any better. The onion looks dark blue or back rather than yellow in my old slides. Some liked the old ones better and some liked these better. From what I saw, these were thinner samples which meant almost everything was in focus on high. Students just needed to have the side around to find what they were looking for.

I received all 5 stages of mitosis , and the slides are well prepared and of good quality. You can easily wipe any fingerprints away without worrying about damaging the slides. They are easy to see at low magnification too, so great for kids who are just getting into science and microscopy. The slides are not labeled with staged, which for me is not an issue, however it might be a little more annoying for someone who is new to mitosis in general. But all in all I’m happy with these slides. They come in a nice little plastic box that is easy to store away.
