I've been using the self-inflating memory foam camping sleeping pad for a few trips now, and my experience has been a mixed bag. On the positive side, the pad is reasonably comfortable. The memory foam offers good support and cushioning, making for a much better sleep compared to standard air mattresses or thin sleeping pads.The insulation (R value) of this is also incredibly impressive. On my first March overnight camp trip, I quickly noticed how well this does at limiting any cold affects from the ground.However, there are some downsides. The pad is quite heavy, which makes it cumbersome to carry, especially if you’re planning on hiking to your campsite. Rolling it up is also a bit of a struggle. It doesn’t compress easily, taking up a lot of space in your pack, which can be quite inconvenient. I have no idea how they compacted it in the ad because when I took it out of the packaging, it wasn't even in the sleeve!That said, if you’re driving directly to your campsite, this pad can be a great addition to your gear. It offers a comfortable night’s sleep without the hassle of inflating and deflating. For backpacking or hiking trips, though, you might want to consider something more lightweight and compact.
