Fun pencil, the grip is nice and fun to fidget with. Writes well. I do wish it was a little thinner. Counter-intuitively it gets a little annoying to hold after a while because of how thick it is.

I only found it once on amazon, at a costey price (it's hard to find some Japanese stationery items...) but I had to substitute my previous one and didn't even think twice. So, the flaws were definitely the price - overprice, to be honest - and something that I know because of what happened to my former one: I believe the gel grip will get yellowish with time and use. However, maybe with this one it will be different. I doubt it, but it's possible. Furthermore, none of these flaws smears the fact that it's the best mechanical pencil ever for me :)The advantages:- the gel grip is so smooth I can write for hours, in class, for instance, and no sign of calluses will appear (it's not by chance its name is Doctor Grip);- easy to substitute the leads;- shaker mechanism, that I personally don't use a lot but it allows us to not overuse the cap-and-eraser mechanism;- the click sound produced when we click to extend the lead is almost unnoticeable - so we bother no one if we're studying in public spaces;- the little eraser that comes integrated (like most of mech pencils) is actually a good one - little, but with more quality than the majority of these micro-erasers) and we can use recharges;- color combination of shades of blue is gorgeous (I know we can change the order of the "rings" but that's not for me, although I believe that for the youngsters this may be a must);- plastic upper body doesn't get easily scratched;- it's so simple it's perfect for someone who already knows the leads that works best for them and just wants a pleasant writing experience: both they are unbeatable!;- it's lightweight and cushioned: if you have tendinitis, a common condition of students who are used to write fast and a lot, it's a safe pencil, because you don't need to put pression on it to write (again, Doctor Grip!)...What more can I say? I can only hope Amazon will sell it soon at a more reasonable price, so more people feel tempted to try this wonder of Pilot and discover how this mech pencil transforms our writing experience.

Great pencil for the price, my two friends both also own one. Although it doesn't feature rotating lead, it still writes very smoothly, and I love the feel of the squishy rubber grip, although I know that is not for everyone. It is a relatively big pencil, and it feels good while writing. Totally recommend for anyone looking for a mechanical pencil that is on the bigger side.

My favourite pencil focused on grip. Solid mechanism and a comfortable grip. I only wish it was easier to get all the colour ways and designs you can get from the JP version of Pilot here in the West.

There is a hook where you can hang charms. There is also a transparent plastic wrap inside the barrel where you can deco with stickers. It’s so adorable, the color is even brighter and prettier than picture.

Great mechanical pencil. It’s fun to shake but nothing special just different. Feels better in hand that a cheap mechanical pencil.

I absolutely love this pencil! The color, the weight and feel of the writing experience. This is pretty much the same as the dr grip pen. Amazing! The eraser is a little small but the MS-10 pilot refills fit perfectly, and if you don't like that, just buy a click or slider eraser. Since this pencil didn't have a clip, I beaded a loop for easy carry, and this pencil fits into my zip pocket of my kokuyo campus novita clear book. Love! I feel that if you like the fatter pencils, or have cubital tunnel syndrome and tendonitis like me, you will find this pencil comfortable. The shake mechanism to bring the lead out is also a bonus and isn't super loud like I thought it would be. Extremely pleased!

Pilot Dr. Grip pencils are pretty much my favorite, and have been for over 10 years. I started using them when I was in high school. Being someone who takes lots of notes AND is subjected to wrist/hand pain, I was looking for a comfortable mechanical pencil that could be used for extended period of time. The Pilot Dr. Grip is big (over 10mm in diameter), but it's mostly made of plastic, so it's also pretty light. Not too light though, because there's a metal tube inside that's part of the "shaker" mechanism, and that gives it just enough heft to make you feel like your holding something. It's pretty resistant. I've had one for over 10 years, used it pretty much everyday for at least 5 of those years, and it's still working like a charm (some of the paint eventually came off though, but meh...).The gel grip is nice to hold, and doesn't get slippery even if you hold it for hours. All those things means you don't need to put a lot of pressure to hold the pencil, which means less hand fatigue at the end of the day. I also have a basic Uni KuruToga (the green plastic model), and for me the Pilot Dr. Grip is by far the most comfortable to use, and the one I'll pick if I have the choice. The lead doesn't rotate to stay sharp like it does on a KuruToga, but this is a 0.5 mechanical pencil, so for me, it doesn't make much of a difference anyway. The "shaker" mechanism means you can just shake the pencil to extend the lead, so you don't have to really stop writing to do it, at least when you get used to it. You just do a little wrist move and BAM! new lead! That also means that if you tend to shake your pencil around for no reason, the lead may extend without you wanting it to. And you don't really control how far it extends (one "shake" is usually enough unless you want a super long point)... But you can always press the end cap to extend or push back the lead like you would on other mechanical pencils. There's also a small eraser hidden under that cap, but it's not really useful and will wear down quickly. This model is the "Play Border", and I got the pale green version. Basically, you can unscrew the metal point of the pencil, pull away the gel grip, and inside are 3 colored rubber-like colored pieces that you can rearrange like you want. You can also unscrew the pencil in the middle, and there's a small rolled acetate inside the clear part of the body that you can take out and decorate. I've put some stickers on mine because I don't have anything else nearby, but I'm fairly sure you could also draw on the acetate (with something like a Sharpie paint pen for example), or add other layers of acetate and drawings/stickers to make a neat little montage. There are plenty of other colors and models to choose from though, so if this one isn't really your thing, I'm sure you can find another you like. I have 2 old models (icy blue and pearl white), and as far as I can tell, they all give similar performances. It came with four leads inside the barrel, which is cool. They work nicely, but nothing miraculous. There is no indication of what grade/brand they are. I'm pretty sure they're just regular HB leads. Of course, you can easily switch them out for your favorites.TL;DR: Really, really good mechanical pencil. Get one!
