I practices with an old cue to see how the device worked.. Since the older stick had a thinner shaft the slide ring didn't lock the clamp in place, with the rubber band extended. However it did wok in a newer shaft which was slightly thicker. I was able to solve the issue on the thinner shaft by using a small hose clamp to hold the tip clamp in place Unlike the metal clamps which a rated by tip size, this clamp looks like it will work well with a variety of tip sizes.

First off, any buyer and Amazon needs to be aware that the advertisement for this item indicates that it is made from aluminum. It is not. It is made from a durable plastic. That being said it is very user friendly, functions well, and IMO probably better against any scuffing or damage to the cue stick than the aluminum. I would recommend this item to anyone looking to replace their cue stick tip themselves.

This was made of cheap plastic, not aluminum as stated. Its fine for what it does, but I wanted one that would last long term so aluminum was one thing I was looking for. Quite disappointed.
