Bought this for grandson, 2nd year trumpet student. He realized it was out of tune. I verified. It indeed plays sharp and is totally unusable. I had to replace it with a higher quality mute.

Best 20$ I've ever spent. It fits in my case perfectly because of its smaller profile while not sacrificing the tonality and sound of a metal straight mute.

These could be quite useful in a band or orchestra as they actually do not reduce the sound much, but they do change the sound quality in the first two octaves. I am not a pro trumpeter so I do not have a benchmark to compare with. But do not get these for quiet practice purposes.
