Technically, this is for snakes, but we use it on our Nile Monitor because he refuses to be domesticated. He has been with us since he was a baby and is currently four years and about two and a half feet long, but he can grow to seven feet or more.When feeding him or attempting to remove him from his habitat to clean it, I want to keep my hands out of harm's way, so I use this tool, which works flawlessly. It is long, strong, and durable, so it holds him securely without harming the reptile and protects me.

Watch out snakes. I'm ready...actually I'm not. So stay away. But if you show up I've got something to defend myself with. I live in south Texas. There is no shortage of snakes around here. Fortunately, I don't see them every day. But I see them often enough to remind me they are around. Whenever I see a dead snake in the road I know the snake spotting time is here.I'm quite pleased with this snake grabber. Most importantly, it has a nice strong grip. And if I should ever have to move a snake I won't be worried about it wriggling out of the jaws. Easy grip handle and the shaft glides in and out smoothly and locks firmly. To be honest though, I don't think I'll ever have this grabber shorter than the longest length. That's just me I'm sure. But I have no need to be closer to snakes than I have to be.My only detraction for this snake grabber is that the jaw lock pivot is slightly bigger than it has to be. I can't lock the jaws using only one hand (thumb). I also have to take my eyes off the jaw and use both hands. One hand holding the jaws closed and one hand to push the locking lever up. This isn't going to be too big of a problem for me. It looks like I can take the lever off and file it down a hair so it fits better. Not the biggest deal.Overall I think this is a great snake grabber. I'll feel confident using it. I'm kind of wanting to run into a snake now...not really.
