I used the "height stretcher* to stretch the instep of my new boots. First issue I ran into was I didn't see how to attach the curved black piece that goes on top so I put that aside, I plugged in the 4 bunion lookin knobs & inserted the device in my boot. That's was a pretty simple process.I sprayed some leather stretcher spray on the boot & began to turn the shaft & open the device to the desired level. Let it sit in the boot a few days.It did a decent job, the instep is "stretched".The 2nd & MAJOR issue (pictures) when I turned the shaft to close the device, it BROKE! Was looking forward to using it in my other boots.Hoping at least, the "width stretcher" doesn't break.

I had my doubts as to whether these could rescue a pair of too-tight-in-places cowboy boots for my husband's misshapen foot. I have been proven wrong! Along with a pretreatment with a shoe-stretching spray, this was the solution within just a few hours. We have since used them on other uncomfortable boots--they have more than paid for themselves!Yes, I know that at least one chain store that ends in Barn will stretch your boots for free, but who wants to drive there, leave your boots, then drive back to retrieve them? This was cheaper than my gas, let alone my time.

While I don't specifically wear boots very often, my feet are so wide and my arch is so high that shoes seldom really feel good when I get them, particularly dress shoes (vs canvas shoes). I do like that one of these stretches up and down and the other one stretches width. On the down side, it takes two stretching episodes to stretch the shoes, but on the plus side, you can really customize. These also have all these attachments which I haven't really messed with yet. I feel like you could really work shoes into a perfect shape, but it still takes patience which I may not have. I got these specifically to stretch dress sandals, so not the advertised application, but it still works. I also occasionally have to buy steel toe boots for work, so I am glad to have one that will work for all applications.These are just plastic, but seem fairly heavy duty plastic, so should be good for several years.
