brandywine kitpic

Brandywine

Brandywine, a popular heirloom varietiy, has been around since 1885. The tomatoes are very large, weighing up to 1.5 pounds. Suitable for freezing and canning. Open pollinated.

roma kitpic

Roma

Roma tomato seeds are an heirloom variety perfect for sauces, or home made tomato paste. The plants do not get too large, so they work well in large containers. Open pollinated.

Beefsteak kitpic

Beefsteak

These large tomatoes are a long-time favourite of gardeners! Large in size, low acid and sweet flavour. Plants are nice and bushy, which protects the fruit from sunburn. Open pollinated.

cherrytomato kitpic

Cherry

This heritage variety produces fruit low in acid and higher sugar content, leading to a very sweet fruit. 'Tiny Tim' produces dwarf plants that can be grown in small containers and hanging baskets.

Germination rates of the Cherry, Roma, and Beefsteak are high, 80-90%. The Brandywine is only about 60%, though. Also, the Brandywine has different leaves, they are not yet segmented even though they are about a month old. Odd. Anyway, looking good enough so far. I am hoping they continue to thrive and produce lots this summer! In the picture the front row is Roma, followed by Brandywine, then Beefsteak and lastly, Cherry.

was a little disappointed. it does happen but i really wanted the roma's to germinate.out of the group, the only ones i got to germinate were the brandywine.anyhoo, is what it is.side note, nice packaging and good seed count - if that helps.

Going off the reviews of this company's other seed packets, I sowed several seeds in single nursery pots, expecting few of them to sprout. But a week later I was quite surprised to see they had all sprouted! So far growth is good, and the seedlings have survived a day in dry soil (since I am worried about damping-off). I can't wait to enjoy fresh tomatoes from my own garden!!!

Although we ordered tomato seeds in late winter they were not delivered in early May - far too late to grow useful sized seedlings by late May!

I usually buy name brand seeds but they are difficult to find this year. In terms of germination and health of plants, these are the best seeds ever! After three weeks these plants are thriving in my house. I expect to have a good crop of tomatoes this year! In the future, I will continue to buy my tomatoe seeds from the Caribou Seed Company.
