Great locator. I've used the GA-52, the Maggie, and now I'm using this Spot. It's my favorite out of the 3 despite being the cheapest. It has 3 buttons total and no screen. The power button, and then an up button and a down button to adjust the 5 sensitivity setting. It beeps a certain number of beeps corresponding with the sensitivity level your on. For example, if your on level 3, it will beep 3 times to let you know. You can't adjust the volume, but it's set at an appropriate level I think. The battery door requires a flat head screwdriver to open, which I don't love, and it takes 2 9 volt battery's, so it lasts a good 3 or so months for me with daily use. Overall a great tool. Always go with schonstedt. The cheaper brands are not as good.

I am a professional land surveyor and have used Schonstedts for decades.Anyone who is familiar with magnetic locators know that the GA-52 was the was to go for a long time, but the always failed when the metal box cover on the back finally wore out the bracket on the inside. So you would wear them out, send it in and pay 200 bucks for a repair every six months to a year, it was just a cost of doing business and was accepted. We always kept 3 times as many as we needed because, 1/3 was in the shop, 1/3 was in the field, and the other 1/3 was waiting to go in the field or waiting to go in the shop. But when they worked they worked great. This changed with the SPOT, the strengths of the GA-52, mainly the ease of use and the accuracy were kept, and put into a much more resilient form factor. I first bought one, and put it in the hands of my most experienced party chief (35 years experience) and in two days he told me to "Throw those 52's in a dumpster." That was enough for me, I bought more.

A light weight magnetic locator with a very convenient travel pouch. This has 5 levels which is dictated by beeps once you press the add or minus buttons. There is no sound adjustments however, it is at the right pitch.
