Installed these lights yesterday and was overall very pleased with them. For starters - they are what I would call low profile - they don't stand super tall off of the post that they are mounted on. I like that because, in my case, the deck that they are mounted on is, during warmer weather HEAVILY traveled and the taller the light cap - they more likely it gets hit or knocked around by a tossed football, moving around wicker furniture or other assorted hi-jinks that can occur often on the deck late into the nite. The install was simple with included hardware and the underside interior 'bracket' allows the cap to fit snugly around a 4x4 wooden post which, as you know, is actually more like 3.5x3.5. That bracket is removable if you are mounting the cap on 4x4 vinyl posts which are more true to size. Out of the box and installed during the afternoon under mediocre sun, they all turned on once the sun went down. Keep in mind that these are only accent lighting - they will not be bright enough to light up your space and do anything that would normally require daylight. As accent lighting - they really look phenomenal. I would consider the actual light emitted to be 'warm' as opposed to 'white' light. One more thing that I think is absolutely fantastic is that the cap is modular to the extent that, come the end of season, I will be able to 'pop' the top solar panel part and the clear lens off for basement storage during the winter while leaving the installed base in place - no screwing and unscrewing every season.

My original handrail post caps keep flying off in the wind. When I saw that these post cap lights work with 4x4” vinyl posts I was thrilled. These are simple to install. Each light pack has a 4x4” and 5x5” cap for vinyl and a 4x4” cap for wood. Screws are provided. At first, I couldn’t get the cap to fit. Then I remembered that I had to remove the insert. Voila! It worked. The cap is a bit too large for my post, but I don’t want to screw into the vinyl. It’s been out a few days and has stayed on in moderate winds. So, I’ll just keep an eye on them. I’m hoping that the additional weight of these caps as compared to my original lightweight plain ones will help them withstand occasional strong winds.I like the warm glow of these lights. I didn’t want anything too bright as the posts are close together and a brighter light would be too harsh. They look great from the street and up close. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with is that you can see the lights through the plastic. I was expecting a thicker shade that showed the diamond pattern more.I put the lights out when we had several cloudy days in a row, and they still lit up. I don’t know how long they lasted past the three hours I was up to check on them. Once we have more consecutive sunny days, I’m sure they will last much longer.I only need five of the eight in this pack, so I’m happy that I’ll have backups. I’m pleased with these lights. They genuinely add a special ambiance and uniqueness to my drab, white railing. They’re also a good value considering you get eight of them.

Multiple diodes per light set these apart from other post cap lights. They seem durable and also easy to install, very happy with them

My 25 year old deck is totally made of wood, and it needs to be replaced this year. When we are rebuilding our deck I will be taking some steps to make it look more attractive and be easier to maintain for longer life. Placing aluminum caps on top of the 4x4 wooden end posts of railing sections will be one of those improvements. Not only does it look nicer, but it also helps protect those critical posts from water damage. Using these Solar Post Lights will also provide some extra night light safety as well as a very dramatic visual improvement.I will likely only need 5 to 6 have this 8 pack of solar post cap lights for the actual deck and the stair extension we plan to add. The extras will be kept and used as replacement parts if needed in the future. I currently use a number of solar motion activated lights that turn on at night as you walk along the path around my house. I have found that they usually last for years, and they have been very reliable and easy to repair or maintain when needed. As others have noted, these post cap lights are easy to install, and also to take apart if they need some maintenance.
