The Stens Snow Thrower Shear Pins were ordered as a replacement for Yanmar Roll Pins to fit the second stage of a tractor mounted snowblower. The roll pins were extremely difficult to replace due to the fact the broken pins had to be punched out of the shaft that holds the impellor for the second stage and the working area is very limited. Once the broken roll pins were removed then the new pins had to be pounded into place. With the Stens Snow Thrower Shear Pin the new ones are inserted, by using a socket and wrench the nut for the pin can be tightened without any problems, this results in a time savings due to the fact numerous parts of the snowblower don't have to be disassembled to remove and insert roll pins. Was informed by an Yanmar Dealer that Yanmar now utilizes shear pins in lieu of the roll pins on the new tractor mounted snowblowers. I also inquired both automotive and small engine mechanics to see if there is a roll pin removal and insertion tool, but I was informed it was called a "Hammer" and "Punch".

A shear pin is supposed to fail before an expensive gear box. I learned this the hard way. I sheared a pin while clearing a gravel driveway and a piece of gravel jammed the auger. Not having any spare shear pins on hand, I stuck in an ordinary Grade 3 bolt. Sometime later, both left and right augers stopped turning. Yup, another piece of gravel jammed, but both the bolt and remaining shear pin were intact. I was able to find manuals and parts diagrams online for this 1970's vintage machine and was able to open up and disassemble the gearbox between the augers. I was very fortunate. The drift pin securing the ring gear had sheared, rather than stripping the gears. Replacement cost: Under a dollar. Labor time: Several hours. Lesson learned -- Don't use regular bolts in place of shear pins.Something else to check before you order these very economical pins -- make sure you are getting the correct size.

I needed replacement pins for my Ariens snow-blower. The price in the local stores was almost the same for each as for this 10 pack. And the local store did not have in stock.These fit perfectly and I had my snow-blower back up and running.Shipping was quick enough that I was not left high and dry before the next storm.

I bought this 10 pack of shear pins based on the product number that was listed in my parts manual (51001500). Even though my Ariens snowthro model wasn't listed as a model that this part supposedly fits in the product description, it still fit and worked as expected. Since I have no way to test I can only assume that the pin will still function as the original part did and break at the intended max load.A 10-pack of these is good to have handy. I wouldnt suggest just buying one as it might break as designed shortly after installing.
