Item is as described. Gift for my father who is a retired meteorologist and he seems pleased with it.

I am very happy with the quality of the gauge. It gives very accurate readings. Able to give precise readings on both large and very small rain events. My only critique would be; if the inner gauge is not standing perfectly straight the funnel top doesn't align easily and seat.I easily modified that by making the 4 fins on the bottom of the funnel beveled to approx. 45 degrees to self align the inner gauge. The quality of the material is sturdy enough to be filed or use a less aggressive wood rasp to make the modification.

Very easy to set up, wish it was in metric. Certainly is filling my curiosity after a rainfall.

This is a polycarbonate rain gauge, made in the USA. I couldn't find another with moderate effort. The advantage of polycarbonate is that it can survive a winter's freezing with water in it. Acrylic cannot.Installation is easy. Place the base to the mounting area, make sure it's plumb, and either mark or drill 3 pilot holes. Screw the base on (instructions and mounting screws included. Mounting is into the dovetailed slots in the base. The rain gauge measures to 0.010" by having an inner tube. The funnel diameter is roughly 3"ID, and the inner tube roughly 1"ID, with the exact ration being 10:1. Thus, when the inner tube has 1" of water, that becomes 0.100". There are 10 divisions for each inch in the inner tube, so that each division is 0.010" The inner tube overflows at 1.0" of water, so that the outer, larger tube is now measuring inches, less the 1" in the inner tube.To be fair, the precision/accuracy of 0.010" is good only up to 1" of rain. More than 1" can be measured only to 0.100".The pros, to me, are first, polycarbonate, and second, made in USA. I refuse to purchase *anything* made in China, which seems to leave 90% of Amazon products unavailable to me.A small con: the digits could be larger, and a white background would make them visible from a distance, rather than having to get close to see a rough number. NBD, but an improvement is possible. It appears that this rain gauge is intended for professional use, though I find it great for home use in the winter. Since polycarbonate tends to yellow and weaken in sunlight, I prefer to use an acrylic rain gauge in the warmer weather. I do note that the manufacture indicates that the gauge is UV stabilize, which would substantially increase its longevity in sunlight.Bottom line, I'm glad to have it, and can recommend it to folks who want high accuracy, or who are committed to USA manufacturing.

Para mi persona es mas fácil de ver las lecturas en el tubo de medición en CM centímetros que en pulgadas, nuestro sistema es el métrico.

I was worried about the delivery of this gauge from the US but it was flawless. Super gauge, highly accurate and I added a metric scale using a piece of a cheap ruler. The gauge is 10:1 so cm's are mm's of rain.

After having two cheap cone shaped rain gauges that stick in the ground, which were both snapped off by ragrowstering dogs, this Stratus rain and snow gauge is the business. Mounted on a post or pole, it's higher up for a start, and, I'm positive, much more accurate. Solidly built, UV resistant, it's well worth the money if you're serious about recording rainfall in your area. I would recommend this unhesitatingly to anyone who was searching for a quality rain gauge. Most impressed.
